I have it set up where I must accept or deny payments from an unconfirmed bidder. I just got one for $150.00. I already told him I needed an form of payment as he has 0 FB. He still paid with paypal??
Now when I click on deny, I get a pop-up that says I must accept all types of paypal payments? No way I'm taking this payment but it looks like the only way to do it is to accept it and then turn around and refund it to him.
Anyone had this problem?

Yes, I posted on another thread that I got a PayPal payment with an unconfirmed address. When I went to deny it, the deny button was there, but it was "ghosted", unuseable. It was not a lot of money, so I accepted it. If it had been anything suspicious, I would have refunded the money after accepting it. It had the accept button there, but no explanation. Why do they leave it unclaimed if you can't deny it!!

I would think that if you accept the payment, and then send an equal amount back, you would still be vulnerable to chargeback risk on the original payment.

Not if you use the refund button to return his money, you would be creating a credit transaction which will show up on his credit card statement.

Sounds like Paypal is letting themselves open to some lawsuits doing this.

Did you have Paypal as a form of payment on that auction? and if not why would ebay and paypal say you have to accept the payment and can't deny it. Sounds like they need to fix something but you know who would win on this, not you.

How about calling them and asking why they even have a deny button if you can't use it.

Stop has it right. Simply refund the money. Don't send a new payment as that will not take the chargeback out of play. You MUST refund that exact payment. Then you will be safe.

TEMPORARY FIX

To avoid this current PayPal technical problem or snafu it is recommended that you temporarily set your primary PayPal currency to a non-domestic one i.e. something other than US$ for those in the USA.

Login to your PayPal account and under Manage Currency you Open Balance in a seldom used 2nd currency (Polish Zloty is a good choice), then select it and Make Primary balance. Now select US Dollar and Close Balance (after withdrawing all USD funds to your bank account). All future US$ inward PayPal transfers can now be denied. This is a temporary, but very effective method of denying payments. Follow it up by making your PayPal registered email addresses different from your eBay ones - this prevents unsolicited PayPal payments when you don't have PayPal listed as a payment option on your auctions.

ooo sneaky, I like it Agit! But tell me, does paypal then ask you if you want to accept payment, or do they automatically reject payment? Also, can you do this then check the deny non-US accounts box?

dreamaid,

I believe you can deny unwanted payments on a case by case basis until PayPal permits sellers to deny unwanted payments as before...

IT'S JUST A TEMP GLITCH!

I called PayPal yesterday, since my "Deny" buttons are now coming thru greyed-out!

1) Tis a sw problem PP knows about & should be fixed by WED...

2) According to the rep I spoke with, the "DENY" button does re-appear on PAGE 2 & is functional?
I will check this as payments come in & report back

This "glitch" has been going on for quite a while. It happened to me over 2 weeks ago.
