Does this item have a specific name? It's like a shi-shi dog but don't think that's it. The dog has a carved hollow ball underneath his paws. Inside the hollow ball is a solid ball. Any info on a specific name and what country it's from? Thanks for any help.

Looks Chinese to me and I thought they were dragons or lions but that is all I am thinking of them. Name on tip of tongue but suffering CRS at moment. Someone will come know all about it I am betting.

It's a Foo Dog, I have one similar to yours. From what I was told, they come in pairs. I believe it's Chinese.

Chinese foo dog, really middle eastern lion given to the emperor by the Arabs back in ancient time.
You have the male who is seen with a globe,th female will have a cub under its paw.
Foo dogs sell well on Ebay

What does the back look like? Are you sure it's wood? It could be made of something else if it is light for it's size. The one I have is very old and made of a brass like metal

I think it's definitely wood...I can see the graining and carving marks quite clearly...it's reasonably heavy and weighs in a little over a pound. Here's a photo of the back...thanks for your help...

And a nice azz it is too...can anyone identify the wood...or does it matter? I searched eBay and seems most are made of boxwood or camphorwood...

Do Foo dogs (lion dogs) sell well if you only have one of the pair? Wondering because I have a nice heavy and marked fairly old Japanese porcelain one of the male that I never listed because I was under the impression two were needed.
