These look like ancient breeds - they may have been crossbred into other breeds. They are all terriers of some sort but I would definitely say the exact breeds no longer exsist.
My educated guess would be that the first one is a forerunner to the Pit Bull - second one may have been bred down into a Manchester and the third one into a fox terrier.

Thanks all. I have come to the same conclusion capolady. Why anyone would make, much less SEND, a postcard of ancient dog breeds without a caption explaining what's what is beyond me!
Thanks for the site url, Beth. I will check it out. I found another one http://puppydogweb.com/profiles.htm and I clicked on every link from A to Z of the breeds I didn't know and didn't find a match

From the dog judge...
They're not "ancient" breeds, just older, stylized, amateur-ish depictions of
Top--Doberman Pinscher
Center--Great Dane
Bottom-- who knows, could be almost anything
They're NOT terriers, except maybe the bottom one which MIGHT be someone's vision of a Fox Terrier--except for the cropped ears. Fox terriers have never had cropped ears. There's no age given for the card, but I'd guess that Basenjis hadn't been yet been discovered by European dog fanciers when it was produced.
AKC won't have a guide to dogs like this. They do have a sizeable dogs-in-art collection, some of which is sometimes shared on their website, but "art" of this quality...no.

Thanks karen - your post got buried before I could read it. I THOUGHT the top dog looked kind of like a Doberman without the markings and I CONSIDERED a Great Dane too - but again not quite right - at any rate I spent WAY too much time on it! LOL
