cosmic significance of these dates is============== they all lead up to my 60 th birthdate March 2. LOL

No really possible bidders will be watching or doing something on those dates other than bidding.

That's true of every day of the year.

Listings on eBay are down currently, so I suppose more of the "conventional wisdom" is that people are too busy to bid during Christmas Week.

I'm selling stuff consistently though, which seems to counteract that conventional wisdom.

I hate to say it, but if margins are so slim that you have to read tea leaves to guess which days you should avoid listing, maybe eBay isn't your cup of chai. I know there are people here who sell under-$5 items internationally and I don't get that either. Why bother to sell if you're not making money on average?

Fluffy: I guess we all have different ways of conducting our eBay business, depending on what we sell. If I were sellng your jewelry, perhaps it wouldn't matter what holidays are coming up. I end all my auctions on the same day of the week, so guessing wrong about my buyers' habits could lose some sales for me.

And some of us may be planning to travel on holiday weekends so won't want to end auctions on a day we're on a beach somewhere.

However, with the oddities I sell, sometimes the holidays are important. I have a Super Bowl silk tie I'm going to list soon. Ditto a book about Ireland for a St. Patrick's Day gift--I've had success in the past doing that. And old valentines. I won't end any auctions on Super Bowl Sunday, because even if the women might not be interested in the game, they're the ones serving the snacks. If I had guy-type things, those wouldn't do as well, either. I have Mardi Gras necklace favors to sell soon. And old collectible Easter things.

Etc.

Northwoodsguy--I've added the Daytona 500. Thanks.

And I'm going to add Irked's 60th birthday. . . .

But that's the thing, Adele. It's not eBay business; it's business, period.

Do you see Best Buy closing down on Super Bowl Sunday? Shouldn't they, considering that the vast majority of their customers are probably ensconced before their flat-panel TVs that day?

It amuses me that so many people get hung up about the eBayedness (to coin a term) of it all. One formerly-rational seller over on OTWA is having hormonal rages over a $9.45 transaction because the customer is "blackmailing her with an INR dispute". Only on eBay, my friends, only on eBay. If you treat your business like a business, period, you prepare the way for greater success and profits.

Thanks for the reminder, Roadsmith. I remembered some Irish coffe mugs I had stored in the depths of my garage and dug them out today.

Niel: I have a large box of seasonal items, and I peek in it every month to see what I can sell. Saves a lot of effort digging around in my eBay office.

ewora: Yikes! DST. How could I have forgotten about that. Isn't it earlier this year? Is that a permanent change? I don't remember its being in the middle of a spring month.

So far, there isn't one single day that will matter as far as selling. Valentines is typically when eBay slows for the tax season. Easter is always bad, but not for the date, just because it falls in tax season.

None of the other listed days has an effect on eBay what-so-ever.

Thanks for posting, Roadsmith. Not sure what I'll do with it. In some cases, listing when others avoid it is a good strategy, although it burned me this holiday season. EBay has become overwhelming unpredictable. I am lazy and don't want to change venues but unless eBay announces a new fee schema soon, I have no choice,

I usually carefully list my knitting and craft patterns etc. according to the season. I was thinking that I would take off my Christmas items until the fall, but I have sold 5 of them during the last week. I guess some people buy seasonal items any time during the year.

stonecold: I tried to explain above that this calendar list doesn't apply to everyone! Some of us like to sell seasonal items when people are looking for them. The holidays I listed weren't so we could figure out ending times; they're just for seasonal items to list in a timely way.

I do know that some seasonal items sell throughout the year, and that's great.

I was just trying to help the collectibles folks here in case they were interested in what's coming up.

Thanks Roadsmith.

This is very useful for planning holiday ads. I also try and save up some ads just for events like Daytona, Mardi Gras, and the Academy Award. My experience has been that people are planning parties all over the US and want vintage items to add to the party decor!

My old movie ads move pretty well during the weeks leading up to the Academy.

Appreciate the work!
