OK - i know it's not the official motto of the U.S. post office. We had a glorious day in Portland - lots of sun, fairly dry, below freezing with a little snow. Schools closed, local news channels blowing it out of proportion. The entire area of my post office had dry streets and was sunny all day. NO MAIL! What the...?

Reminds me of when we lived in Las Vegas. A couple inches of snow one day, one inch the next. Everything was shut down, including p.o and schools. All stores were out of film. It was a Very Big Deal.

The offical motto of the P.O. is:
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
IT DOES NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT NICE SUNNY DAYS

Here in Boulder, Colorado we have had more days without mail than with - but we had two mail deliveries on one day this week. The post office is very far behind and working hard to catch up with the backlog of undelivered mail. Guess that is where all the checks I am waiting for are languishing.

Right this second in Oklahoma, we're covered in a sheet of ice...but the mail was delivered! We'll see about tomorrow but, so far, so good. Accolades to the delivery folks who manage to slip and slide around and deliver the mail!
You were spoiled when you lived here in MN. Of course they don't deliver on African American day, and wouldn't you know it, we are on our way to 6-9 inches of snow as we speak...

My sincere apologies go out to my post office. Woke up today to 3 inches of snow, its still snowing in my neighborhood. Nothings sanded, folks have been stranded on the freeways all morning, cars are spinning out on my side street. They didn't cancel schools until 8:00 or 8:30, when kids were already dropped off for class or were waiting at the bus stop. (I had already decided this was a snow day for my kid - school-sanctioned or not). Kids are stranded at school, bus drivers haven't received the OK to take them home, the teachers are leaving... In the midst of this mess, the postal carrier showed up with the mail (with my long-awaited ATM replacement card) right on time.
