Don't you live in St Augustine? I love St Augustine - we visit every chance we get.
Sorry we have never moved that far so I'm no help with the question.

If you were moving from Utah to California, instead of from Florida, I'd have a fabulous mover for you. He's a teacher who moves people on weekends mostly, has all the right equipment including the trucks, and moved us for maybe 25% of what a big company would have moved us for. Great service, nice guy too.

Where are you moving to in California? Just wondering if you'll be anywhere nearby.

My Brother lives in San Diego and I guess it's as nice as St. Augustine or at least it was 20 years ago when I was there. Beautiful place

Niel35... we moved to NH from Colorado 3.6 years ago. I called everybody for rates. They scared me! I can think of alot of ways to spend money that would be more fun.... I called Arkansas Bulk Frieght (those ABF trucks on the interstates) WWW.UPACK.COM
We packed all boxes and the trailer. It cost us $5000 instead of the $18,000 United wanted. It was a pile of work, I own, we own ALOT of stuff but we save ALOT of money. We were very focused and packed and stored things in one room in the house for months ...everyday a few boxes. Then we had a a pack the trailer party, BBQ. They bring the trailer to you when your ready to pack. You have a tracking # we knew every min of everyday to within a few miles where our stuff was. I HIGHLY reccomend them. If your willing to do some work it's pots less $$$. AND $$$ don't grow on trees or on ebay

Hi Neva,
Do you know what the weather is like during June thru Sept in Temecula. It ranges from 95 to 105 most days, unless you live close to the mountains where you will get a small ocean breeze.

bjb - I remember that move! I think we all moved with you.

Down here in the south they have something called PODS Portable On Demand Storage or the equivalent.

www.PODS.com

Is that something like what you're talking about?

niel: Temecula may have warm summers, but it's not humid there. AND, TA DA, the best part--it's less than an hour's drive from Idyllwild, in the mountains where we live! 6,000 feet and cool in the summer. And there are parts of Temecula that are higher than the town itself, where the summer temps are a bit lower. You're also an hour from the beaches.

I don't know if you've been there to visit yet, but the town is very nice, with a great old history but mostly new housing and businesses. It's experienced rapid growth so most everything you see is new, clean, and bright. We have to drive there to shop at a Costco or Trader Joe's, and the restaurants are great.

If you do move to Temecula, let me know. You can drive up here for lunch or dinner sometime and we can discuss eBay. (Hmmm. Would that meal count as a business expense?!!! LOL.) Adele

Thanks Adele - will keep you posted. I need to empty out my inventory in the garage first. Not going to haul that out west. I am looking at 4 or 5 months from now.

Hi Neva,
Temecula is a wonderful town & area. It is developing quickly, so there are many exciting new shopping centers, restaurants and a fabulous place called WINCO(extremely great food prices). I love it and visit often as my father lives out in that area. It does experience the seasons but the summer is extremely hot(I am not use to the heat as I live at the beach) but not humid as Adele stated, a very dry heat. there is a breeze sometimes in different parts of the area. the old town of Temecula is charming and there are many wineries in the area plus an Indian casino called Pechanga Resort. the valley is somewhat still rural in some areas. It is an hour inland from the ocean. You should google it and look at the google maps.
I live in Huntington Beach which is about a 70 minute drive to Temecula.

Mamachia is right about the town; listen to her. And . . . people . . . after Neva moves to Temecula, let's the three of us have a meetin' over lunch or something in Temecula, which would be central for Idyllwild and H. Beach. Are there others here???

Mama - thanks for the info on Temecula. Sounds inviting.

Jack - I can't afford you, sorry.

Adele - lets do have a meeting and lunch, maybe we can start a convention out there with VEO members, at least some of them.

those pods might be the answer. Evidently you have a month to pack them up.

We are also checking out ABF.

We want to pack a little at a time and get help for the furniture and heavy stuff.
