OK.........when did this happen?......I just got a best offer on an ebay store item......I wanted to counter and send a little note.....the text box is gone......now you can only accept, decline or counter - no place to put Thanks for your offer, etc..........also, they are now concealing part of the user ID....and they give you this message.....
*** Member IDs have been partially hidden to keep users anonymous.
No way to check up on who your buyer is or what they're up to except to use ebay's feedback score.........

You can't see who is giving you the Best offer?!?
That's rediculious!
It's even more rediculious if you can see part of the user ID but not the full ID...

No......they have part of the name like queenof***** and that's that. You get that message I posted about the partially hidden id and you can click on their feedback score but when you get to the feedback page, the id is also partially hidden with *****'s

Can you click on one of the feedbacks and find the name that way? I hope this isn't another one of eBay's shoot themselves in the foot ideas. If you can't get an idea of who is bidding and their feedback how on earth should you know if you should accept the offer or not?

You can click on their feedback number and it will take you to their feedback page, where you can read their feedback but their name is partially obscured on the feedback page also.

Can you click on the item and see their name as buyer or seller?

Not only is their name partially obscured, but the names of the people who left them feedback are completely missing.

You'd think ebay would have better things to do than to design roadblocks like this...

All the item numbers are missing from their feedback list so there is no item number to click on to see what they purchased or sold.

All I can say is that they must have Nicole N from "live" help doing programming for best offer:

I'm not having that problem, could it be a fluke? Are you all signed in? Boy I hope they don't do this, it is really stupid.

We can now make it worse..........I just got a best offer from someone whose id is partially hidden and their feedback is private!

You can do what you like, but I don't accept offers from people with private feedback. I don't care what their justification for making it private is.

queenofcollectibles,
The partially-obscured eBay Member IDs and corresponding feedback has been around on all Best Offers made on ebay.co.uk and ebay.com.au for the last three months or so. Looks like it's been a success if it's now ported to ebay.com. The intention is to prevent buyers and seller colluding to make an off-eBay sale and thus rob eBay of the associated FVF. There are several backdoor methods to check out a buyer's bona fides from a partial eBay Member ID but I can't mention them in a public forum for fear that eBay might close them.
I thought the whole idea of e-commerce was disintermediation - not adding new layers of complexity between the buyer and seller as eBay seems intent on doing.
