Easter Greetings! I am late at getting my scans together this year. Our collections, especially postcards of photographers, is so rich with possibilities. Far and away the holiday with the most examples is Easter. Rabbits with cameras, chickens with cameras, children with cameras photographing rabbits, chickens, children or a mix of all...

At first I wondered why the camera was so common as subjects but then I remembered my growing up when new clothes were a requirement for Easter Sunday. When I say new clothes I mean all our clothes; dress, hat, purse, and shoes. One year I had to wear my old shoes because we did not find any I liked to go with my outfit. I polished the soles of the shoes so they would look new when I knelt at the alter for communion. The other absolute requirement was that my father brought out his camera and make a record of the family. The film was either the end of the roll from the past Christmas or the beginning of the roll that would finish in the summer with our vacation.

The four cards below are from a "boy photographing rabbit" set. The one with a readable postmark is 1909.

Oh, yeah...

Every EASTER required a new suit from Lit Brothers (Jane remembers that place probably), and a new Azelea bush for Mum...

NTM: remember coloring EASTER EGGS? Do kids even do that anymore? Twas FUN...

My favorite Easter outfit was when my Dad took me clothes shopping - my Mom just had a baby. I got a grown-up pillbox hat and a huge petticoat. Must have been 8 at the time.

Those lilies are beautiful, all our spring flowers froze this week 4 days of below freezing temperature sure makes everything look sad. However, it is still Easter and Happy Easter to everyone (or Happy Spring).

Wanted to share one more of our cards, a companion to Neglus singing eggs. This egg photographer is unique among the rabbits, chickens, and children. It was mailed in 1908 in Jersey. I also am intrigued by the message on the back. The sender seems to have signed the name as "Camera" and includes a line of xxxxxs (kisses)

I love the mystery of the old postcard messages.
