Me too Roadsmith, I had to stop watching it, I couldn't stop crying. A lot of the students are from other countries, what a terrible shock for all the parents. Whatever goes through the mind of someone to do such a terrible act.

roadsmith here. That was Pixi who started the thread; I can't take credit!

And, yes, awful awful thing at Va Tech. Europeans must be looking at this country and just shaking their heads. So much gun violence.

It's not just the USA. Remember the school in Erfurt Germany? 18 dead in 2002. What a sad, sad waste.

No, it's not just the US. It has happened in other countries and Canada had an incident in September when a gunman went on a rampage at Dawson College in Montreal and killed one woman and injured 19 other students.

And in 1989 Mark Lepine killed 14 female students at a university in Montreal because of his dislike of feminists. His father thought that women were meant to serve men and had total contempt for them so it probably affected his son too. Canada has a national day of remembrance because of the incident when they focus on ending violence against women.

It's very sad whenever this happens anywhere in the world and it's difficult to understand how any person can do that, no matter the motive.

Horrific, this is just senseless killing (not that any is sensible).

He appears to have just killed randomly.

It is another reality check, we are living in a dangerous world.

for those who can no longer watch the news coverage....
Shooter identified, weapons ballistics confirming that the same guns were used at both sites.
Such a horrific tragedy.
My heart goes out to the parents and families in this senseless crime.

I think for everyone of us who have sent our kids off to college (we have sent 4), you worry about them not doing their work, getting in with the wrong crowd, drugs, drinking etc. You never expect you will have to worry about them getting shot! That guy must have been full of anger, he couldn't even have known most of the people he shot, I saw that there are 26,000 students on that campus.
