My daughter just sent me an email asking me to let her have a dog because our little Doodle died last Fall...and here's the one she wants.
Hercules was recently awarded the honorable distinction of World's Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff who has a 38-inch neck and weighs 282 pounds.
With "paws the size of softballs" (reports the Boston Herald); the three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's standard 200lb. limit. Hercules' owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules weight is natural and not induced by a bizarre diet: "I fed him normal food and he just "grew"... and grew. and grew. and grew.

Whoa. Are mastiffs good watch dogs? Do they bark? That is one honkin' monster dog! Very cute, too.

Hmmm. Something's not right here, especially the dog's shadow. That's a Neopolitan Mastiff, not an "English" Mastiff (which isn't the name of the breed, which is just Mastiff) and a dog the size of the one in the photo would be more like 450 lbs or so. A quick web search reveals that, yes, as of 2001 the world's largest dog is a Mastiff named Hercules, but this isn't him.
