Hello, can you opt out of the new feedback where the final sales cost is shown? I see one feedback that does not have it and all the others I see do have it. I think it would be great if that was not shown, what if you bought a gift for someone and they could easily look up what you paid. I know this has been discussed before but I want to know how to opt out if any one knows. Thanks

I don't think the cost shows on buyer FB (it does on seller FB) - you can hide it by making the auctions "private" if it's that important.

But if you click on the item,it will show the high bid amount, unless it is over 3 months old and Ebay deletes the item from its data base.
But why tell the gift recipient you bought it on Ebay?
Another issue I see is with the sell side, showing the amount bidder paid for the item.
Since Ebay is an auction,if a seller has more than one of the same item and it could be sold at varying prices, the bidder will not be happy if he thinks he pays more than the other bidders.
I just dont see what does it accomplish by showing how much the bidder pay for the item when he leaves feedback?it is not like we are all selling items for a penny to gain feedback?

Good points, thanks for the input. I don't want my feedback to be private as I think that makes you look a little 'shifty'. So it really isn't that important to me personally, I just think it is odd that eBay thinks everyone should know how much each item cost at a glance. I know we've always had the option of clicking on the ended auction but I never look at more than 2 or 3 items.

Private feedback and a private auction are 2 different things. You can have a private auction, but feedback is still visible.

Private auction-the bidder identity is not revealed so you wont know your favorite brick and mortar antique dealer is bidding on the item he sells in his store!
Private feedback-the person 's feedback file is hidden from the public,so you dont know what others have said about him.

It's much easier to have different eBay IDs for buying and selling. Potential customers (and more importantly competitors) can't easily discover what price you paid for your purchases or where you got them. Likewise nosy spouses, kids or relatives can't discover what their presents are going to be in advance (or how little you paid buying in the off-season).

I agree with you and that's why I was very happy when they changed the rules. Sellers are no longer allowed to make their feedback private if they have active listings.

buyers who are actively bidding should not have private feedback either, how do we know if other sellers have complaints??
esp if someone have a history of saying they did not receive the item,or their check bounced or excessive returns.
