I just printed my first online. It's two parts and two pages. Do I keep one and put the other on the package?
TIA

Hi Ladyjewels,

I've only done a few of these recently (so hopefully someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong). The international flat rate envelopes are different, so this does not apply to them but to other international priority mail packages.

On the first of the two pages that printed, you will see one page that has the postage part. It will be different than the other sections. This part gets affixed to the package where you would normally put the address label. (You are not supposed to put tape over any bar codes or scannable areas.) Make sure you tape around the edges well. You may need to sign on this form some place (can't remember for certain), but check before you affix the label to the package.

The other page and a half you printed out are actually 3 copies of the customs form. You do need to sign (near the bottom) of this form. Make sure you sign each copy. I believe one of the copies is for your own records and will say customer copy or something like that in small print. The other two copies go inside a special clear envelope that you can get at the post office (or order for future use at the usps store online for free). The envelope has adhesive on the back and should be affixed to your package.

Hope that helps clear things up for you.

Thanks - I hope my husband can just drop it off and not have to stand in line.

You better not just drop off an international package, depending on your post office, of course. I wait in line with my international ones because I want the receipt that provides more proof of shipping as well as the customs number.

Of course if you trust that it'll get processed correctly...

The customs number should be on the form, but if it is no longer trackable, what good does it do us??

My husband took it to the post office for me as I didn't have the pouch. They keep all the copies and photo copied one for our records.
Here's the great part - she wouldn't give him any of the pouches. She said we would have to have them attach it to the package??
This is just crazy - why offer a discount for online postage if you still have to stand in line and use the postal clerk's time. Typical USPS way of doing things!!!

Do yourself - and anyone you like at your Post Office - the favor of not attaching the "pouch" to the box before they get everything stamped and they get their copies.

Just about every one of the clerks here complain that people attach them and it is nearly impossible for them to get the copies out once it's attached. They thank me each time that I bring my copies in with the pouch not attached yet.

And for the tracking, I've been able to track items to their delivery address in the UK and in Canada with the Customs form. You just have to use each country's postal web site to do the tracking. Ours only ever tracked items to the release point at JFK in NY.
