Hi everyone, Can someone help me with the date/age of this dress. It doesn't have a brand name tag ,just a size tag. I'm thinking 60's . I need to know what section of vintage clothes to park it in. Thanks so much for any help !!

My first thought would be to note the size tag. Since there's been major size creep (so that large women are fitting into smaller and smaller "sizes" of clothing), perhaps someone who now is that size could try it on for you. If it's much smaller on that person, then you know it's really vintage.

Beyond that, I can't date the item.

Thanks roadsmith, Its really vintage. It has a paper tag inside and its running small for the size 6 tag. lol its funny how the sizes have changed over the years. Its even worse on high name brands

Does it have a zipper? Seems to me that the style of zippers have changed more than anything in clothing over the years. Can you tell what the fabric is?

Hi photosensitive, Yes it zips up the back. Its to tight on my mannequin to zip all the way up but heres a picture of the back. Just your standard straight zip up the back. I already wrapped it up lol or I give ya a close up. If its real important I'll unwrap it. It came from the charity shop I work at one day a week. Was part of a older ladies estate. A bunch of 60's style clothes came in with it but nothing this pretty.

Fabric is chiffon, I imagine.

If it has survived thus far without any snags, that's remarkable.

Tag says 100% polyester but feels like chiffon. I didn't see any snags just a spot or two that look like they will clean out.

Chiffon can be polyester or silk.

Thank you for clearing that up in my mind Fluff I always wondered if polyester could be called chiffon. If looks the same as any other listing I've seen.

That dress is identical to the one my grandmother bought & wore to my grandparents 50th anniversary party. That was in the mid 70's. She looked beuatiful!

I was wondering if the zipper is metal.

It reminds me of all the different types of Halter dresses that all the small designers tried knocking off from Bob Mackie designs from the 1970s.

The scarfy-thing reminds me of some of Carol Brady's dresses on the BB - I'd guess 1970s too.

I think there was Talon back in the 1960's and maybe even late 50's.

I had a formal for sophomore year Homecoming with that sort of Empire waist (1966 - oops now you know how OLD OLD I am). The neckline was MUCH MUCH MUCH higher and would have been a turtleneck if Mom had her way.

When did polyester first appear? I am thinking late 1960's - early 1970's.

First U.S. Commercial Polyester Fiber Production: 1953, DuPont Company.

Talon Zipper was a company founded in 1893 but I'm pretty sure they were metal zippers.

Your only as old as you feel neglus...so your just a spring chicken

I'm not a vintage clothes expert, but I remember the Talon "invisible" nylon zippers being relatively new when I embarrassed myself in Home Ec sewing class circa 1965.

My guess is late 1960's, early 1970's. The zipper is all wrong for 1950's. It's beautiful, BTW.

Thank you everyone !!

I parked it in Women's Vintage Clothing > 1965-76 (Mod, Hippie, Disco). That pretty much covers all ages. They will either find it and bid or not. You know how that goes.
