I shot myself in the foot again!! I normally don't accept e-checks through Paypal but I changed my TOS and left that out by mistake and sure enough I get an e-check. OK my fault. It took the buyer 5 days to send me the e-check in the first place and then it took 9 days to clear. It cleared on friday at end of business. I get an email from her today asking for the confirmation # of the package. I told her I will be happy to email it on Mon when the package ships.

She responded with the fact that she is shocked that I didn't go to post office today to ship and she has waited long enough for her items.

I pointed out in the response that the reason she has waited is because her check took 9 days to clear and I didn't think that Mon was a long time for shipment.

Am I wrong?? I didn't have her items packed because I really didn't think her check was going to clear. I didn't tell her that but I thought it.
Now she's really hacked because she says she has sellers who will ship her items immediately upon receiving her e-check and there is no reason I shouldn't do the same.

I got really angry as I don't need this headache at this time of year so I responded "Terrific - buy from them". Probably not the best response but I've had it with these buyers who think the world revolves around them.

Am I wrong to not have shipped the item immediately? I would have had to make a special trip just for her and to be honest I just didn;t feel like it.

if you print your shipping label thru Paypal,it will create a DC number which said something like USPS has received notification that this package will be shipped soon?

I always reply to those e-check emails from Paypal (which means the reply goes to the customer) telling them thank you for their pending payment and as per Paypal instructions I will ship when the check clears.

I also mention that it will take two business days to process their package once the check clears although I will try to process sooner if possible.

This person sounds like a pain you don't need. And, YOU are NOT wrong.

No, you are NOT wrong...

Although I've received probably 50-75 eChecks from PP over the years, and, although it is RARE for one NOT to clear, I have had around 10 that didn't!

So, when I'm paid with an eCheck, I email the buyer my standard "PAYMENT RECEIVED" email, modified as follows:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Irving R. Feldman:
I have received notification from PayPal regarding your PENDING eCheck payment for eBay Item "Monkeys Do IT TOO!"...
PayPal estimates that your eCheck will clear on 11/11/07, and I will then receive a PERMISSION-TO-SHIP email from PayPal.
As stated in the auction you won, I normally ship within 48hrs of payment receipt, which, in the case of an eCheck payment, is within 48hrs of clearance.
As soon as your item ships, I will email you the USPS DELIVERY CONFIRMATION NUMBER...
Again, THANK YOU for winning one of my auctions!
Sincerely,
Mr. Boston RedSox Ralph
The only thing you did wrong was emailing while you were angry but I'm not blaming you for that at all because I would probably be tempted to do the same thing but with worse language.
It took your buyer 5 days to send her
e-check. Try reminding her of THAT.
"Terrific-buy from them"
Love it, good answer she had it coming.
Sometimes you just have to say what you want & not be held hostage be FB.
I like Ralphie's advise, "Paypal did not give me permission to ship until..." I agree, no matter what, wait a few hours before responding to emails that make you angry.
Some of my buyers who pay with an e-check haven't done it before and don't understand that it can take a while to clear.
Communication is always the key. As mentioned above, here, I also send an e-mail thanking them for the e-check, promising to ship when the check clears, and of course an e-mail when the check clears, telling them when the package will be mailed. I haven't had any complaints using that system. Most buyers are okay when they know what's going on.
As someone who sometimes buys things on eBay, it's no fun to pay for something and get no reply at all from the seller. I am left in the dark.
I too have had a lot of e-checks, and I've had about 5 that didn't clear. I always forward the confirmation of payment to the buyer and point at that eBay tells me not to ship until it clears. I have never had a problem with a buyer, but then, I hate to speak too soon.
I just had a newbie buy a book of knitting sweater patterns. I clearly said it was a book of 20 sweater patterns, and finished the description by saying that the book was in good condition. She paid 3 days ago, and wrote today to say that the sweaters she had purchased had not arrived. I acted very innocent and wrote to say that packages from Canada to the US take a lot longer than 3 days, and her book should be there in about 10 days! So far, no reply.
My point was the buyer waited 5 days before making payment & then got snippy because her item was not shipped even before her e-check cleared.
Buyers such as this will make you wait for payment & then expect instant shipping.
Happens to me, I'll sometimes wait three weeks for payment & usually with late payers once they drop that check in the mail the emails start....did you mail my stamp yet???
I think this would have been a good reply
"Sorry for the delay in shipping but as you waited 5 days to pay and then paid with an echeck, I felt you must not be in a hurry to receive your item."
But your reply was good too and no you aren't wrong.
