Sorry I was sidetracked by my un-packing duties for a few days! I have no idea what I am going to do with all this 'stuff'!!
I would be delighted to meet you when your Cruise ship comes into Victoria. I can see the CruiseShip terminal from my window and it is a 3 minute walk from here. It looks pretty bleak at this time of year with just the occassional freighter pulling in for a few days.
Murchies sounds like an excellent idea and I hope it does not change too much now. After over 125 years of family ownership they went into Receivership ( our version of your Chapter 11) last Fall. The assets have just been purchaed by another Victoria family.
When the time gets closer let's make some arrangements and I shall appear at the dock waving a huge sign that says FLUFFY..OTTEROPP!!

Hi otteropp,
Sorry for the late response but I just got word from my travel agent today that we have a confirmed booking on the Alaska cruise: Regent Seven Seas Mariner, leaves San Francisco (yippee!) May 16, ends up in Vancouver 11 days later. We're planning to take a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria but oddly BC Ferries' schedule for that route doesn't show any service in May. Will have to find out more about this.
Murchies is my favorite place on Government St. In the States people regard you strangely when you ask for milk for your tea. The afternoon tea at the Empress is priced sky-high -- Murchies is a reasonable alternative. Long may it live.

Super, we look forward to a visit.
You will be travelling from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and I see what you mean as I just checked the schedule and there is a little chunk missing for May! They are our main link to the mainland so will be in operation I think they maybe just have a little glitch on their site.
I know what you mean about asking for milk for tea...I always have to remember to ask for HOT tea when I am in the States otherwise I am served Iced Tea!
I had tea at the Empress last year when I was a member of the local Red Hat Society and we got it for 1/2 price as there were 300 ladies there. It was nice but at full price it is now around $50.00 and way over-rated! I am not cheap...just frugal!

Otterpop - You're in Victoria? I have family there. The Kaehn family (aka MacDonald). My more immediate family immigrated from there in the early 1900s. I've been trying to get enough together to make the trip there. Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the US.

Amy, it's the usual Inside Passage itinerary plus a few more ports. Skagway (home of the great White Pass and Yukon Railroad) is the northernmost point.
