EBay research lab has put out a Title optimizer tool (I still haven't figured out quite how to use it yet: http://labs.ebay.com/raghavgupta/demoto/to

Maybe it's the late hour, but rereading my post gave me the giggles - "BM" is a REALLY good description of this caca doo-doo mess eBay has developed!

I think I am getting the hang of the title tool but results aren't very encouraging -
for example this title:
VINTAGE MOTEL POSTCARD ST PETERSBURG FL 1950S (Bay Estimate 50%)
ranks higher than my original title:
ST PETE MOTEL ST PETERSBURG FL FLORIDA POSTCARD 1950S (4Bay Estimate 40%)
In fact the word "Pete" gets a -10% ranking. But that's the name of the motel! Does it make sense to list without specifics like the name of the particular motel pictured in order to improve Best Match search placement? What about the people that are looking for a postcard from that particular motel?
This title ranks highest of all but is one character over the limit:
VINTAGE MOTEL POSTCARD ST PETERSBURG FL 1950S NEAR BEACH (bay estimate 80%)
Bingo -
VINTAGE MOTEL POSTCARD ST PETERSBURG FL 1950S BY BEACH (Bay Estimate 80%)
Too bad the motel isn't really near the beach! LOL...guess that won't work after all.

What would changing 1950S to 1950 do?
I think I understand but isn't this very time consuming to do for each auction?

All I get is garbage when I try to use it! I'm trying to list 1930's movie star homes hollywood postcard folder - it suggests I use Eames era, which I understand from another thread is verboten as well as inappropriate. Edited to add - it gave a 100% rating for the keyword "of" for a Cincinnati postcard - what the heck - I can afford the two letters - what a useless tool!

It is a pain to use but I suppose if you had a multiples of the same widget to sell it would be worth the effort to use it. Doesn't work very well for OOAK collectible items. Hopefully eBay will see the folly of trying to force collectibles into the Best Match mold!
The whole point of collecting is to find that rare item to complete your collection. You would have to wade through a lot of generic listings designed for BM placement to find that item now.

Does this Best Match work the same way in the E-Bay stores or is it just for the auctions and buy it now.
