I just saw this in a listin:

"A 5% instant discount will be given with Postive feedback and five stars given to us! We will always leave you positive feedback with a quick payment within 7 days. Your satisfaction is guarenteed with a paypal payment! Please feel free to view our other items."

mmm, if you are a powerseller and can keep your stars up to qualify for the 15 or 20% rebate, this could be a smart move.

a. Is it allowed?
b. how do you know if they left 5 stars and not less?
c. I did not think that feedback left within 3 days of the sale counted in feedback scores.

I think for digital goods/1-cent listings, ebay used to cancel listings that mentioned anything about posting feedback.

Of course digital goods no longer allowed.

Report them for feedback manipulation.

"Feedback left or received, including detailed seller ratings (DSRs), where the feedback’s primary value is to artificially enhance a member’s reputation rather than provide commentary and ratings on genuine transactional experience is not permitted.

Consequently, offering to sell, buy or barter feedback is not permitted."

How can they give an instant 5% discount based on stars? I don't see how it can be done.

Never heard that before. Is this what you are thinking about?

"In January we mentioned that we'd block buyers from leaving negative or neutral Feedback for 3 days for sellers "with a track record."

Since January, we've made the decision to increase the wait period to 7 days and define "track record" as active PowerSellers who have been on eBay for at least 12 months."

That must have been what I was thinking on the feedback thing.

I shared the post because I thought it was interesting that someone felt the need to barter for good feedback. This is not a newbie seller either so you have to wonder what they are thinking to be willing to risk getting booted.

Most people don't bother to read the rules. Or maybe they're confused. Maybe they believe that because we used to be allowed to offer discounts for certain types of payments (money orders as opposed to PP, for example) that this type of discount is also allowed.

I can see it if they have FB below 100 - not allowed but I can see someone trying. I have a friend that sells large furniture items. Paypal holds all of her funds for 21 days or until she gets FB because she only has 75 FB's. It's killing her because she has to pay out of her pocket to ship items at $300 and $400 each. Her DSR's weren't good to begin with but with the hold it's taking her even longer to ship. I think her ebay days are over on Nov 3rd.

They tried to pull that hold crap on my ex-husband when he began selling some very high priced camera equipment on an account with single digit feedback.

The hold was removed after one phone call to PayPal. I don't know what he said or what he may have threatened them with but they released his funds immediately.

Congratulations, Fluff!

You are proof that it's never too late in life to learn the joys of self-restraint.

You're proud of her too, aren't you, Deichen?

I have a feeling this is only the tip of the new leaf.

Thanks for the link Fluff - I'd only seen the teakettle before. Took me awhile to find Waldo in the dining room set photo.
