Remember I sold a car and waited 3 weeks for the pick up and the guy emailed me saying, he's sorry but something personal came up he can't buy the car anymore.
Well I finally got my FVF back (125.00) then I relisted the car.
It sold, I contact the buyer on the second day and this is her email to me:
I am very sorry, I had an unexpected financial hardship and am unable to purchase the car at this time. Its really a beautiful car and I wish you luck with selling it. I'm really sorry for any inconvienance. Sincerely, Valerie
The last buyer that backed out got a strike for not paying. Now I have to file all over again. So far the 2x's I sold the car both bidders had very little feedback so I'm sure they don't care if they get a strike against there name.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can protect myself from this happening?

toni - Do you have to sell it on eBay? If you can sell it locally, that's what I'd do. So sorry this happened to you twice. That really stinks. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do except put out the strike on the buyer and get your fees back again. I don't know how many times eBay will let you do this on one listing, though.

"The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

dont we have an option of blocking bidders with low feedback to bid on our items?
You can also say serious bidders only.

Thanks Cheryl, I guess I could sell it else where but ebay has always worked well for all the antique cars I sold that I figured this car would sell also.
That's another thing Cheryl I don't know if ebay will flag my account if I try to sell it again. I'm going to have to think this out very carefully.
hwahwa, yes I am able to block buyers with -1 feedback but that's all I see where it shows block buyers.
I wish there was another option like maybe pre approved bidders? Maybe I can do that?

You could do a BIN with immediate payment required.

No. Not anymore. Unless you are listing the Batmobile.
"Occasionally, for certain high-profile listings, we allow a seller to create a pre-approved bidders list to restrict their listings to a specified group of buyers."

How weird is this A Cornflake rates for a private auction? lol
Weather I use buy it now or auction it's all the same. They get cold feet after they bid.
There has got to be a way to stop this impulse bidding. Now I will file for my Fees and see if she responds, either way i'm not offering her a mutual release because How do I know I can trust her after what she did.

You've sold it twice now so you should have a pretty good idea of what people are willing to pay. Craiglist it and accept cash on delivery only.

Was there a second-highest bidder on this latest auction? If so, you could of course offer it.

I was the Interner Sales Manager for a new car dealer and have sold cars all over the country and I never used eBay Motors way too many flakes and I am not talking about corn flakes.

I had two people flake out on me - pun intended - when i tried to sell my work van on Ebay. Sob stories and a pain in the butt, wasn't worth it.
I would try Craig's list - particularly since it's free. I put my husband's car on there - it was a Mazda 626 with 195,000 miles on it - we would have been thrilled with a $1,000 - just as a lark, I advertised for $2,500 and had 6 emails within 24 hours - and it was over Labor Day weekend - everybody and their brother was looking for a car for under $3,000 for their kids, commuting, etc.
I ended up selling for $2,000 to someone locally for his daughter to use and had no fees.

yes that's a good idea I will try Craigs list
I filed for my fees and the winner responded saying why are you doing this, I wrote you telling you I want the car but something came up and I can't buy the car now.....
Are these people really bidding and not knowing what happens when they decide not to complete the transaction? But I bet they know that they can't get a Neg on there FB. Also Bet they know they can give the seller a Neg FB......
Since the new FB I have had many NPB's which in all the 10yrs of selling I only had 1 NPB with the old FB in place.

Hello,
Why not ask for a non-refundable deposit to be paid by PayPal within 24 hours of the auction closing? (most listing forms, including ours, has a provision for indicating deposit to be paid via PayPal.)
Id make the deposit $200, something small enough to expect a quick payment, then you'll get paid for your efforts when you end up having to relist it again.
Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, That is what I did, I asked for a deposit to be paid with paypal.
But that only works if the buyer still wants to car after they win it. And all my buyers so far decide that they can't buy the car due to personal reasons.
I'm just lucky that ebay stopped charging 40.00 to list cars because if they still did that I would be out 80.00 so guess I'm lucky.
