I'm going to load up the listings starting next weekend. December and January have always been my best months on Ebay.
But, I'm debating store vs FP30.
Are most of you putting some of both? Did you swap the auctions for FP30 or do you still leave them and just move some store items to FP30?

Today on ebay there is an annoucement explaining the new best match and fixed price 30.
In a nut shell if you are not selling the lowest priced item with free shipping and are not selling more than one each per listing you item will not be seen.
Single sale items priced realistically are shown way in the back and are never shown on page one or two. they have placed everyone in the same price tranche and if you are not giving your item away you will not be seen.
These are not my words but that of e-bay!
Click on the seminar and listen to the idiocy of the entire best match fp30 program

I'm keeping my store open. I've been putting most of my new listings as 30-day BIN (not GTC) with free shipping.. I'm listing a few auctions for unique items which may have an upside. The jury is still out. Neglus is still doing auctions as well as her store.

EBay also sorts one way if you search in all categories and another way if you search in a specific category.

I have kind of dropped out of ebay since the whole best match fiasco.
But, personal situations change, and I desperately need to move now so I can help out a family member with a health crises.
I know all the risks with depending on ebay for anything, but for the first time, I want to seriously try to make this work.
My first questions did revolve around the ratio of items for fp30/auction. I have done terrible at auction for the past 6 months so stopped listing that way altogether.
I thought I would see if others are reducing the auctions for fp30. And, if it is working for them. Store alone won't pull in enough to do what I'm needing.

Pixiamom, what do you mean?
I'm going to go play with it but do you mean if I search for one of your postcards in "all categories" versus searching from the postcards category I will see different sort results?

rpm757 gave you the correct answer, but it sounds like you're still stuck in 2006.
eBay is making no secret of the fact that they will favor sellers who have the lowest price on quantity items.
If you are not such a seller FP30 is a waste of your money. I have given up using it.
Do not harbor any illusions about this: For many things these days, there is NO GOOD WAY to sell them on eBay. None. Doesn't matter how badly you need the money. If you list with FP30 your items will not be seen. If they are in Stores they will not be seen. If they are at auction, auctions are interspersed with FP30 listings. Don't start anything you care about at 99 cents.
The marketplace has radically changed since 2006 and is now practically unrecognizable.

If I title search on St Petersburg postcard in all categories, a 30-day BIN card I listed yesterday is half-way down page 1. I f I do the same search in the Postcards category or in the Postcards-Florida category, the same listing is found on Page 3, after all the auction listings.

I tried to listen to the webinar - I really did TRY but found myself literally sick to my stomach as I listened to those POMPOUS IDIOTS from eBay talking. I had to turn it off. I guess I will try when I am in a better mood. If I have to listen to another sentence that starts: "SO,...." I am afraid I will either 1) throw something at the computer or 2) hurl. Seriously, how is it so many people (and I can hear East Coast accents so it isn't a California thing) begin each and every sentence with the word "SO". God help us! They are little Bill Cobb/Meg Whitman clones!

fluffy...
Believe me, I'm way past 2006. But, I also see many people who have managed to work beyond the new changes and to make at least enough to get by each month.
I also know that could change next month and that big changes are coming (supposedly) in 2009 which is why I've done practically nothing for this entire year.
There really are no alternatives though so all I can do is try.
We can draw SS in November of 2009 so it's not like I'm going to try and depend on it forever. It's just that we desperately need to move now, and we cannot do the work my dh does here where we want to move.
Thanks Pixia.
It looks like there is no stability on anything. Just list and hope you get seen Thankfully, I still have enough unique items to where ebay cannot hide everything (unless they just stop showing them in search altogether).

Hello Myfavorites4u,
If you are selling unique items, then your best bet is to list them in the auction format. Fixed price listings are dependent on having multiple purchases associated with them in order to get good placement in search (for multiple item fixed price listings, the more often someone buys one of the items from the listing, the better placement it gets in search).
Since auction listings are still shown in search based on ending time, this is the best way to list your unique items and be sure that they are still seen in search. If you are concerned about a low winning bid, you might want to consider listing them with a higher starting bid and the Buy It Now option.
Also, there is a post on the Vendio blog that discusses the eBay webinar. If you want to take a look at it, you may locate it here:

That is good information. I can use the tips for my second ID where I do sell some items with multiples.
On my main ID, I sell one-of-a-kind items and everyone in my category is doing the same. So, I don't compete with the multiple sales situation on virtually any search completed.
I do compete with the people who continue to list at $1 and $2 though which hampers my placement on fixed price.
Guess I will stick to auction for the core listings for now. It still appears to be the best bet.
Thank you again for posting the link and the suggestion.
