I just bought a new laptop with Vista 64bit. I like it so far, but unfortunately my very old version of Adobe Photodeluxe 4.0 no longer works. I have Photoshop, but don't want to use it to do basic editing b/c it is like driving a race car when all you need is your own two feet to walk a block. More power than I need.

What I really liked about this old software was its simplicity to use and layout... and one of the most important things was it remembered the folder to save all of the photos I edited after the first time I saved a photo instead of making me open a series of 5 subfolders. Maybe there is a default setting I am missing.

I need something that has all of these basics easily accessible.

- Brightness/Contrast
- Image sizing (enlarging by pulling on the corners) like in Publisher.
- Cropping/Trimming
- Color adjustments
- Rotate by spinning the image instead of entering a degree value.
- Touch up tools that copy color. I use this to fill in background if my item is so large that you can see beyond the intended background.
- Resizing the image
-

Any suggestions? Anyone who used PhotoDeluxe 4.0 that found something as simple and quick to use should weigh in.

Have you tried running Photodeluxe in XP compatibility mode? (Right click Photodeluxe, choose Properties, go to the compatibility tab, choose run in XP mode). Vista should remember to run in XP compatability mode everytime you run the program.

pixiamom-

i completely forgot that you can do that! i changed the settings and it worked!!! i have some other software that i have to install as well. now i have more confidence that it will work.

i use the photodeluxe to edit photos really quickly for online images like ebay. i use photoshop when i am doing more professional things for print.

i would be happy to check out more current software, as I know the photodeluxe is at least 10 years old... a fossil in techno times. i just haven't found anything that is so effortless to use as this is, and i've tried several.

i would still like input on other simple photo editing software, so please keep the messages coming.

If you use Photoshop then Photoshop Elements would be a natural to use. I got it bundled with both a digital camera and scanner but I use the full version Photoshop.

I've used PhotoDeluxe 4.0 for years, and I love it. My husband has Photoshop Elements and tells me I should get that instead. (I might try that sometime when I have LOTS of time to learn it.)

I ditto Hwahwa on Arcsoft PhotoStudio.

I can easily edit about 75 photos per hour. However, I haven't figured out if/how I can plop them into the correct folder right off the bat -- it would be even faster then. It does everything else though (crop, resize, recolor, borders, background....)

I tried a number of others (incl. Picasa, Adobe) but have always gone running back to my quick and easy PhotoStudio.

Oh, and it was free, too, with my Canon Pixma.

Is there a mass delete feature on Photo studio?

Hwawha - Re PhotoStudio - I just mass delete in Windows Explorer (Windows XP). I never looked to see what all ArcSoft offers. One of these days I'll read the manual...

This isn't software per se but I just played around with some of the Photobucket editing tools and it seems that all those functions are there - but has to be done online. Best part is that it is free! It even has a cut-away feature that lets you outline the part of the image you want to save and then cuts it out against a white background.

roadsmith-

i knew someone else on vendio used PD4 and liked it as well. i've used MGI PhotoSuite, Microsoft's stuff, Photoshop, etc and I can go through tons of photos in a very short time.

my favorite thing is that it automatically remembers the folder the previous photo was saved in and pulls that one up. that saves so much time and frustration.

I've been using free software I downloaded that is quite simple - they do ask for a donation, but that is up to you:
