Can anyone identify the maker of this milk glass covered dish? It has a design of Maltese-like crosses around the side. This band is wavy. I THINK it might be a covered butter dish. From research, it resembles Kemple...but I couldn't find any marks on it. Thanks for any help...

I can't ID the maker, but I think it is a butter dish.

It is pretty, wish I could come up with the maker for you.

I bought it at an estate sale. I thought the wavy band and crosses were especially unusual.

I could never guess a maker. However, my first thought is that it might have been used at a preacher's home, convent, monastery, seminary, etc.

Further, I recall such designs being prevalent in Byzantine, perhaps Orthodox - Russian, Greek, etc.

I feel as if I have seen the design in such settings.

You could be on to something, Bill. The top, especially with the ridges, do resemble a dome of a cathedral. Hopefully, someone who knows more than I (probably quite a few folks) will be able to enlighten me. Thanks!

Good catch Tonimar!

Here is more info on Bryce glass: http://www.petcoff.com/Bryce%20Brothers.htm

I haven't had any luck on finding the Troy pattern in a search yet but somewhere i have a book on antique pattern glass that may have it.

From the info on the link provided above, I suspect the butter was one of the pieces made by US Glass after they bought Bryce.
