Trying to get stains out of old fabrics? Mix color-safe bleaching powder (1/4 cup) with dishwasher powder (1/8 cup) and warm water (1/2 gallon). Soak the fabric in the mixture overnight, then wash. Dry in the air; do not use a dryer.

I've soaked fabric overnight like this... We had a large piece of fabric that needed spot cleaned. I tried soaking it on the one spot. It removed the spot without a problem... and then some. It faded that area of the fabric slightly more than the other. After washing it I didn't notice any difference.

thanks - will try it on a blouse that I slopped spaghetti sauce on. I forgot to spray it before I washed it and it is stained.

I prefer using Spray N Wash sticks. I have always used these with great success, especially for grease spots.
Generally, it is most effective if you put it on and let it set for awhile (at least an hour). Then put it in the wash. It works even better with warm to hot water.
