Update on 2010 USPS Rate Changes
The USPS has announced that there will be a rate increase of 3.3 percent, on average, for Priority Mail effective Jan. 4. There will also be new prices for Express Mail, Express Mail International, and Priority Mail International.
Prices for First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, Parcel Post and other mailing services products will not change in 2010, with the cost of a First-Class Mail stamp remaining at 44 cents.

The grid of prices by zone does not include the flat rate envelopes and boxes. Those values are still shown at the top. The grid is for non-flat rate packages.
Priority Mail Flat-Rate Envelope: $4.90
Priority Mail Small Flat-Rate Box: $4.95
Priority Mail Regular/Medium Flat-Rate Box: $10.70
Priority Mail Large Flat-Rate Box
Domestic Addresses: $14.50
APO/FPO/DPO destination addresses: $12.50

Purhase Priority or Express mail online from Click-N-Ship with your PayPal debit card, and get lower commercial rates, plus 1.5% cash back from PayPal.
I note that the Flat rate Priority Mail envelope price decreased 5 cents, the small box flat rate remained the same, and the medium and large flat rate box prices increased.

I've always used FedEx for my heavier items and have never had a problem. Insurance is automatically included as well as a tracking number for all parcels. I agree with Max...I'll probably be checking them out for my "regular" packages now.

I usually use ups for heavier items...is fed ex cheaper for items between 3-10 lbs?
I must say I appreciate OP's simplified summary...at least for priority mail. I looked at usps.com regarding their new rates the other day, and didn't take time to take old and new rates and compare, so thanks OP.
