Can anyone help with information about this large doll head? She has sleepy eyes and molded hair. What I thought was unusual is that her neck (where it would be inserted in the body) appears to be wood. Any help is greatly appreciated. There are no marks on the back of her head.

Do you think the wood could be a repair? I'm not a doll expert by any means but the wood doesn't seem to fit the head material itself. Is it rubber?

I am not a doll expert but this looks exactly like my memory of a doll my sister or I had in the late 40s/early 50s. We still have some of our dolls packed away but I don't have access to them or I would check to see if it is the same and if ours is marked. I think I remember composition arms and legs and a cloth body.
Good luck with your search.

If you think that is creepy pixiamom, my daughters mother-in-law collects doll heads, and she has hundreds in her living room. Wherever you look, they seem to be looking at you. My youngest daughter has been afraid of dolls since she was scared by a movie she saw as a child about a doll coming to life, and she won't even go in the room.

Years ago I sold some jade carvings to a Chinese in Kansas,he kept saying he can see spirits living inside the jade pieces, and a horsehead he said he sees Mongolian prayers written all over.
I must be missing something here??

Thanks for the comments...I agree with the "creepy" factor but her face is rather sweet. I'm not an expert either (obviously!) but don't think the wood is a repair. The paint from the head extends down to the wood (it's flaking) which makes me think it's original. Appreciate any help and hopefully some collector will recognize her.

I don't know a whole lot about dolls, but it's not unusual to have a wooden neck on a composite head, especially low-end dolls, which that one appears to be--not that it may not be valuable now.
