McJane, are you doing O.K.? If you have a chance drop us a quick note to say hello. Thank you and I hope things are going well. Pat

Thanks for starting this thread. I was thinking about McJane today and thought a new thread would be a good idea. Sending all the good wishes I can to you, McJane! Would love to hear from you.

I read somewhere we should all have 15 plants scattered around our house.
I wonder if we can find out where she is and send her some flowers or plant?

Has anyone heard from McJane?? I am beginning to get very worried.

Well I'm sending her a card tomorrow and asked to please call me as we were all worried about her. I told her "enough is enough" and that she needed to update us all.

I explained why I had not sent anything in the last two weeks (due to DH being in the hospital)

So if/when she calls (I HATE talking on the phone due to my hearing impairment but will do so if she calls) I will update everyone.

Glassgrl:

Two things...How is your hubby doing?

Did you hear from McJane?

No I haven't heard from McJane. I'm seriously worried. I emphasized to her that she needed to call me so that we would know that she was still alive at least.

I can't imagine her saying here she is going off to have major surgery and then never coming back to give an update. Having tomwii saying he talked to her and "she's fine" is not enough.

OTOH - recovery is coming along for DH. Some days are good, some days are slow. He had a reaction to his wire stitches that are now healing and I'm noticing increasing dementia issues. Could be B12 deficiency - but the suddenness of it scares me. I've noticed it over the last year or so but just the last week it's gotten really bad. Even his kids have noticed it before this.

I am worried too, maybe Tom will call her and chime in here soon.

I am sorry hubby has had problems with the stitches but glad they are healing. Maybe with some B12 either by shots or vitamin 'horse pills' the dementia will stop and be reversed. Also, he had major surgery and that can lead to temporary depression so maybe they can treat that. I hope everything goes much better for you both soon!

I sure wish we would hear from her soon. It's been too long.

As for Tom - I sent him a Thanksgiving e-card and it was never picked up so I worry about him as well.

glassgrl - have you told your doctor about this?
Maybe there is something he/she could do.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Nov. 30, McJane posted on a Breast Cancer forum where she indicated that she was considering the type of therapy that she might need.

Hope she has found an effective and easily tolerated therapy.

People in McJane's space need support from people who have been where she is. If McJane has limited energy I'm glad she is spending it in a forum with the answers and support she needs- she knows that we love her.

"friends in low places are we?"

Glassgrl, is that remark directed to me? If so, I don't understand your meaning.

Can you please explain?

Thanks.

Nevermind, Glassgrl... Pixiamom's reply explains your concern. Sorry that I misunderstood.

If you read McJane's post on that board I'm sure that you will understand why her priorities are so time and energy consuming right now.

I should have included the link with my first comment. I was just trying to reassure everyone that she is making progress. As Pixiamom suggested she may not have the energy to focus on a thread here.

https://health.google.com/health/ref/Hepatic+encephalopathy

Liver problems are often asymptomatic until challenged by stress or injury. Things such as a systemic or chronic infection, introduction to new drugs, organ stress due to injury or surgery, etc, can cause liver problems to flair which can cause Hepatic Encephalopathy. The encephalopathy can become critical very quickly and cause permanent damge if not properly diagnosed.

In my Dad's case it was not diagnosed at all after his back surgeries and caused permanent brain damage in the frontal and temperal lobes. In my sister's case, it first occurred after a surgery and it took 4 subsequent hospitalizations in ICU and a referral to the liver center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis before anyone diagnosed it. Unfortunately, by then it had caused multiple organ damage and she is now on hospice.

If I were you, I would ask his doctors to check his liver profile AND serum ammonia levels. Best to also ask for a neuro consult. Too many doctors are too willing to ignore the symptoms until irreversible damage is done.

I hope he is just having confusion because of some of the drugs but it is best to be proactive.

I see someone reported my post and it was removed. I don't understand why or who took offense. I really do care and just wish we knew how she is, I certainly don't want to bother her. I will not post to this thread again.

thank you D - that's IT.

just remembered from his Baby book also:

"Dec 1 1945 Terry was taken to hosp, had nephritis & kidneys didn't act for 8 days, unconscious, he was so sick & we nearly lost him" (he was 2 & they operated on him)

This all started with his shoulder surgeries.

and this is a biggy:
Deterioration of handwriting or loss of other small hand movements

He has complained repeatedly that he cannot even sign his name anymore.

Will get with Dr TODAY. Thanks.

The hand writing thing was and continues to be a big problem for me. Some days I cannot control a pen at all. I also have speech problems. The words in my head have a hard time getting to my mouth or my hands.

Do not be surprised if you have to go through a dozen doctors before you find one who will take this seriously. It is not their fault, they just do not know or understand how common this problem is. Standard lab tests often do not point to the source until all organs are affected.

Swelling in the extremities, muscle wasting, mental confusion are often ignored by the doctors and attributed to side effects from the initial condition.

I will be praying for him and for you too because dealing with this situation is hard for everyone involved.

well - went to Dr made appt for Dec 22 and left letter and docs. hopefully she'll call and rebook sooner for tests after she reads what I left her - stuff on the Enceph & his history. He was also diagnosed with Hept C at one point (not confirmed)

Broke the news to DH. Not happy at first. Coming around to it though. More of a WHAT THE H*** reaction.

The Dr ordered 6 vials of blood to be taken so I guess she took me seriously. From what I've read this is hard to diagnose?? And treatment is ??

Here is a sample of his handwriting and what I'm talking about. The first is from a couple of years ago. The second is from a couple of days ago. This is how it has deteriorated.

That is quite a difference.
I am glad your Dr. is taking this seriously.

My Dr. likes it when we go to him with ideas and suggestions. I always preface it by saying, "Well, you are the Doctor but..."

Let's face it they do not live with us and observe us every day so they do rely on our input and I have yet to find a Dr. who was offended by input.

Now it is in your Doctor's hands and I am sure you will see some results and hopefully some treatment.
