I can't imagine what else he could want! You are offering to make him 'whole' and cancel out the whole thing and take it back and even pay for shipping.

Sounds like he wants to keep the radio and the money. Is it worth shipping back? Perhaps it isn't broken at all? Did you offer a price adjustment?

May be he wants you to give him some money.
It happens ,they like the radio ,they dont want to go to post office, they think they can salvage it,they think they can resell it OR there is just nothing wrong with the radio but they want to reduce the price they paid like a rebate deal?
I used to get phone calls a lady said this big elephant broke a leg but I am very good at repairing elephant leg so if I take it to the post office ,they wont find the breakage,so how about some money back from you?
A guy called and said there is a manufacturing defect on the bronze rhino if you look upside down there is a seam which just does not look right,I dont want to return it unelss you pay overnight UPS shipping COD so how much would you give me?
Then he said yes,I like this rhino,it fits nicely on the shelf with the other mechandise for sale !!!!!

the radio was intact when i sent it. the only thing was the case did not snap shut. he said the back was ope 1/3 way. i immediately offered a refund, plus shipping and an explanation. He appreciated my "couteous response" and asked for a partial refund. I asked him to send me the radio. then the e-mails started getting nasty,"you knew it was broken, "etc. I again offered a full refund plus shipping. The last e-mail he sent me was how come i didn't know the halves were coco-eyed. i have not responded. I just wast the radio back and i will give him a refund

Sounds like a cheat to me and hes not happy your not playing his game. Your most likely getting a neg. feedback from him at this point no matter what you offer or do.
If it was my radio I would say
" Hi XXX,
Sorry your radio arrived broken. It does happen sometime with shipping an item. I do not do partial refunds. I'll gladly refund your purchase price and pay for shipping when you return the item to me.
Thanks XXX"
You don't owe him anything but to offer a refund and only if you say you take refunds.
I think I'd also report him to eBay because I'm sure hes been cheating other sellers. I bet ever sell he tries this. Keep all the e-mails.

Be firm and polite and stick with your offer. If the customer files a complaint I'm sure PP and or eBay will agree your offer is more than fair.
I might write something like;
Dear Customer,
We offer a 100% refund plus shipping on items returned to us within 10 days of receipt. Please send me the USPS tracking number and the date of mailing. Our records indicate the item was shipped to you 00/00/00 and arrived at your address 00/00/00. If you wish a refund the item must be mailed to us on or before 00/00/00.

These buyers are way out of control. I had a lady that wrote that a cast iron fireplace screen arrived broken - she really liked it and what could we do. I told her I had insured it so send me photos of the break and the packing etc and I would file a claim. Never heard another word from her. I wrote her 3 times and nothing. I guess she just wanted a discount.

Now,I just got a phone call from a high bidder ,he said I sent him the wrong item and he wants his money back.
I said fine, please send it back and I will give you a full refund (it is my fault).
Then he said no,he wants me to give him his money first and then he will return the item since he paid with good faith and he wants to make sure he does not lose his money and his item.
If I dont agree, then he will go the Paypal route of item not as described.
Then I said thats good, lets do the Payoal route ,as soon as he filed, then I will respond by saying I will refund in full when he returns the item so we dont have to get paypal involved which could take up to 10 days.
He said he is very disappointed and now decides to keep the item,he said he have this bad karma from day one when I refused to let him pay for insurance??
Now this part I dont understand,he said he is a seller and a buyer for 10 years with perfect feedback, does he know Ebay has removed insurance as an option and it is the seller who has to deliver the goods in good order??
I am willing to refund in full with shipping and pay for his return shipping, since he said he has no use for this item ,then why is he keeping it????
Dont tell me he is trying to get a free item, even though the item is not what he bidded on?

Thanks for posting all your experiences. This just strengthens my resolve to handle tansactions in a professional manner.
hwahwa, I too would have a problem believing a "10 year seller" who does not understand how the PayPal dispute process works.
mbhap, I would not lose any sleep over your buyer either. If these people really had a problem with their purchases, they should be chomping at the bit to return them and get their money back.
Have any of you considered writing or calling ebay to report these problems? I would want it on record with ebay and PayPal that the buyers had contacted me after the sale and tried to get their money back without returning the merchandise.
On another note, also might want to read two good articles about Customer Service.
