Jan 4, 2010 USA Today Article - First Monday: Five Questions for John Donahoe
Q: What can buyers on eBay do to protect themselves against counterfeits and fraud?
A: Look for a top-rated seller.
"Every single transaction is rated on four criteria: Was the item as described; did it ship quickly; did it ship at an appropriate price; and was the seller cooperative.
For every single transaction that seller does, the buyer rates them on those four criteria. If you go on to eBay and do a search on any page, you'll see a small number of sellers have receive top-rated status.
That means less than 1% of their buyers have ever rated them low.
More and more buyers are buying from top-rated sellers."

I am a top rated seller. You do not have to have a store. Here is what eBay says will make you a TRS.
Must consistently earn 4 or 5 star ratings from eBay buyers for delivering excellent service, shipping quickly, and providing accurate item descriptions.
Must sell $3,000 or more and complete a minimum of 100 selling transactions on eBay every year.
Are regularly reviewed by eBay for compliance with these standards.

I am a TSR. However, I have an empty eBay store, which will be soon closed. There is no longer a need for an eBay store.
I am curious as to if the TSR status is also good for someone who lists without a store.

I received this yesterday.
"You're an eBay Top-rated seller
Congratulations!"
I didn't get overly excited as I have been TRS for 3 months already. I do have a store.

I got the email as well but don't recall getting them every month.
Does being a TSR help? It's hard to tell in this economy but I'm sure it doesn't hurt.

I became a TRS without being a TRS. Had to ramp the sales back up. I think fixed price and free shipping does more than TRS. Oh, yes to the store.
