I am the buyer of item 220698509090 BIN. Transaction was yesterday - paid by paypal with credit card. The seller sent me the following (copied from the email) late today: "Thank you for the purchase. Just wanted make a clear about this machine. The machine is not in working condition. I am sure it will need repair or it could be good for parts. The machine was not tested." In the auction description it specifically mentions the motor (engine) works. I need an opinion (other than my biased one) I think I'm going to panic. Thanks for your input.

My guess is that it is not in working condition. The seller has several other sewing machines listed and in those he/she states that the machine is in working condition. Your item does not exactly state this - just says the motor works.

Looks like it was well discribed sounds like when you plug it in a press the pedal the motor runs but it doesn't do much of anything else.

Is it possible to do as the seller suggests in this message from this a.m? "That is okay to refund the money. Please cancel the transaction as a buyer."

There are several problem with this listing including the poor grammar, which doesn't make it any easier to figure out what they are saying.

Even though the seller gives you a description of the different parts and their condition, the one thing the description is lacking is what the seller sent in the email message: "The machine is not in working condition."

I would send a kind email to the seller telling them that even thought they described the different mechanics of the unit and that it would need service, the listing did not state: THE MACHINE IS NOT IN WORKING CONDITION. Thank them for emailing you prior, and ask for a refund.

I would also keep in mind that this seller must have had issues with returns in the past, otherwise why would they email you such a message??? The seller needs to accept responsibility and put this in the listing to make it absolutely clear that it is not working.

I am on with eBay chat right now and they are saying that the seller has to cancel the transaction.

English does not appear to be the first language of the seller based on the grammar. I can just imagine how my Spanish would appear if I tried to write something.

it isn't difficult to clearly state it is a non-functioning unit... but some sellers have a hard time stating so because they know it lowers the value.

2 years ago i bought a broken laptop at a g-sale for $1. it has no power supply, i couldn't test it. i listed it on eBay as-is for parts clearly stating the description including any visible issues... but I did clearly state it was for parts and non-functioning. anything a buyer gets beyond a non-functioning unit is a bonus for them.

In the end I sold it for $125 to a very pleased buyer and i made a whopping profit on it.

I have seen worse grammar, spelling from folks whose mother tongue is English or rather American!
It seems everyone else like Canadian,Australian,Welsh,Irish,Scottish ,of course the English write better than we do.
As for the sewing machine made in Japan, what do you expect the machine to do for you?
Sew up a big storm, then there are new ones out there or used ones you can pick up locally for the same money without paying shipping!
Are you looking for parts like its motor/engine?or are you starting a sewing machine museum?
BTW,Japanese used to speak horrible English, now the Italians are the worst, worse than the Asians, what is their excuse?

The machine has a chain stitch capability that others don't. That was what I wanted it for. They are really hard to find unless one buys a commercial type machine. The machines manufactured in Japan are good ones from that time period. I don't know about now. I have a couple of Swiss made ones and that is where my heart is.

The seller emailed just now and said she would refund the money in a day or two. She has to replenish her paypal account. She apparently doesn't want to go the 'cancel transaction' route. That means the transaction will be open for feedback and that could get ugly, but maybe not.

The seller refunded my purchase price and canceled the transaction. It went smoothly.
