I've been playing with shipping dimensions on a listing to help a buyer in Australia who wants to purchase multiples.
I know the calculated price for shipping compensates for the weight of each additional item... but does it also compensate for box size?
I can ship a single order in a 12 x 10 x 4 box, and can ship 3 in a 12 x 12 x 8 box. The rates on eBay don't add up to what USPS shows when I adjust the box size, so I am assuming the answer is no.
If this is the case, then eBay's shipping calculator is worthless for multiple purchases.

Combined shiiping has to be done manually unless it is just multiples of the same item & you have programmed shipping for combined shipping.

buyers do not understand when they buy the item,Ebay charges a FVF on shipping as well as the item and the FVF on shipping is not refundable.
So when we give them a partial refund,we have to take that into consideration.
When I have a shop on Yahoo Shopping, I can figure my shipping cost based on either weight of the item(s) or dollar amount of the order.
Since my items are small,I use dollar amount of the order, and I charge an extra $10 dollars for international shipping.
I build my own shipping table and if I want to offer free shipping,I just change the table and not each item.
Yahoo shopping and Yahoo auctions are 2 separate venues, but on Ebay, you have shops and auctions co-exist on one venue.
When someone enters your shop, they see your items without all the craps waving in their face like buyer protection, seller protection, more from this seller, report this seller, report this buyer?/
ebay shop is not a shop, they should stop calling it a shop, can you imagine the mall operator posts signs on every item in Macy Dept store which said-this item does not qualify for Ebay buyer protection;report this seller??

I don't understand? Dimensions only matter with international in determining if an item can go 1st class or priority (or not at all).
It's not like US shipping. Unless something changed that I have not heard?
I learned the hard way that Australia's dimension requirement is lower than most other international. I tried to ship a pair of lamps packed in one box and it was too big.
I had to bring them home and repack separate in smaller boxes and eat the difference in cost.

I think dimension is for Pitney Bowes to figure out how much they want to charge us when we ship thru them for international orders.

I had to remove and relist an item in order to change the category to qualify for Global Shipping.
In the process, I had adjusted the shipping dimensions and noticed that the quoted price to Australia jumped for just one item. I went back and played with the dimensions a few times and noticed it changing between $50-$75.
I am uncertain why this was. I just verified what ebabestreasures said about dimensions on the USPS website. It doesn't affect it.
Maybe it is something to do with Global Shipping???

may be it has to do with the category.
Pitney bowles is asking a third party to ship these items overseas, whoever this third party/consolidator is would put multiple packages in one big carton and ship to a local agent of that country,
That local agent will then open up the carton, retrieve these packages, weigh them and slap a stamp on it and ship via the local carrier,be it post office or private carrier.
I have a feeling Ebay may be subsidising this program.
