Many, many years ago, some aquaintances of ours, signed up to make a monthly donation to help sponser a child in Africa. It was not a large amount, maybe $20 or so a month.
From time to time our friends received a newsletter detailing the childs progress and as the childs education grew they began to receive the occaisional letter from him, usually around Christmas.
Last week they received a knock at their door. Standing on the front step was a tall and ernest young African man.
It was the child that they had sponsored for all those years. He had qualified as a doctor and was here in Australia on a special grant to help further his skills so that he could better help his own people.
On his arrival here he had made his way directly to our friends home to personally thank them for giving him his start in life. It had been his life long dream to meet his Australian sponsers.
At the completion of his training he will be taking up a post with the World Health Organistion, helping with the prevention of disease back in Africa.
What a triumph for one man and one family to have achieved.

What a fantastic way to really see the good their donation did for that young child who is now a grown man ready to start his adult life with a good education that is due thanks partly to them.
Those charities are real! Could you post which one you were involved with? I has thought about helping one many times but always doubted their authenticity.
