There is a fear that a large American military presence in Pakistan might provoke Islamic radicals in the area. Because of a concern about the increased anti-American sentiment in the region, the US and Pakistan are now planning on a modest use of Pakistani installations.

"As a result, Pentagon officials are scrambling to make new logistical arrangements."

"Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld left last night on a three-day trip to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt and Uzbekistan to discuss military issues."

"Asked if the US planned to use bases in Pakistan, a senior US official said, "We are working very hard not to. And if we do, we want to be very discreet. We do not want to destabilise the Pakistani government. They have been very cooperative so far."

The Saudis don't want any offensive actions taken off their soil.

Nobody has the guts to tell them "Fine we will just remove all our people and when you
have a problem with Saddam or anyone else don't call us you alimentary terminations."
