I like reading people's signature lines....they always make me smile, no matter what they say, plus they say a bit about the poster. I was thinking, we have some space with our signature lines to add something to our posts. It could be a link to a picture, a funny (or not so funny) saying, a quote, whatever. Maybe we could utilize them for awhile to make everyone's day a bit brighter. What do you think?

I've seen some sig lines that are funny, or make a statement. However, most, in my opinion, tend to be self-important and can end up sounding snotty. Especially when the thread is leaning towards debate of some kind, and someone has a "Have a nice day" or "Cheers", or something of that type. While I realize that you get to know when people use a sig line in every post, it bugs me a bit when a thread gets "hot", and the one person who is fanning the flames signs each post with "Cheers".

This sounds petty I know, but it's just an observation of mine taken from a usenet group I read and post on.

I have never found anything so profound or funny that I want to automatically tack it on every statement I make without regard to whether it is humor or serious things being discussed.

My sig line serves a dual purpose. First, to let people know not to take what I say TOO seriously. Second, to remind MYSELF that anything I say, no matter how "sure" I am that it is right, is still just my opinion and could turn out to be wrong.

Regards,
Barry

My sig file used to represent me ... light hearted, happily awaiting Christmas.

The way I am feeling now perhaps I should switch to one of the Halloween gifs. I really like the one with the lightning

Sometimes I forget to uncheck my sig file and it appears where it doesn't belong. Sorry about that.

My favorite: The lights you see may be from and oncoming train.

Each time I read it I am reminded that we never know what is just around the corner.

Human nature being what it is, I have a tendency to demur during RL conflict and then it turns out I was right and should have stuck to my guns! However, whenever I am truly impassioned and state it....you guessed it off the mark or downright WRONG!

So my sig line should be:
Yes, I am absolutely positive! No, that doesn't mean I am right, just absolutely positive!

I have hand entered anysig lines on my posts as I feel differently day by day and issue by issue. Sometimes I wish I could just change my name at will, too!

I've always liked the one gravid usues..... "The opinions expressed........" Wry but not snotty.

My sig file came with my new name. It got downright ugly in here when people were expressing their opinions on AFA and everything else surrounding 9/11. I felt I needed to no longer be so open as to what my seller ID was.

The names were changed to protect the innocent.

Well, back in the old days when FIDO NET was what we had for forums, there was a "offline" reader called SLMR (Silly Little Mail Reader), and I had about 3000 "Tag lines" loaded that I could pick from depending on what I said, what the subject was, and what mood I was in. You weren't "stuck" with a single sig file.

Kraftd... You are on a roll! You should be commissioned to come up with sig lines based on your observations!
