The Kern County, California, Sheriff's Department ordered plain white patrol units and had the graphics applied locally. But in this case, what they ordered...was not quite what they got.

This car was driven for one week before an officer noticed what the graphics company employee did on the passenger side of the car.

The employee did this on his last day working for the graphics company before he retired.

rofl!! I think its funny too! Is that for real??!!

One town over here has this really ugly powder blue color car (especially after bad weather its yuckie) and they call them menietti blue after the chief who ordered them. I always thought why dont they repaint and go with another color? But what do I know?

What I really dont know is whats going on with these people lately. Shooting at a guy out in CA 90 times...all this stuff...its crazy......

It is funny, but it's also a fake. Notice that there is a countour in the door that somehow has no effect on the text that sits over it. the text should have distorted slightly andand had a slight color change as you can see on the star on the front panel.

Linda/Classic,

Didnt you hear that news story about the sheriffs in CA who were chasing some suspect and they fired at him and his SUV like 90times? And when they pulled him out of the truck they said he had no weapon?

You dont think that is excessive? 90 some odd shots to one guy in an SUV?

I will try to google it and find the story if you havent heard it? Was on the news not but two days ago.

Linda - it does not matter if he did not stop or not. This was in a residential neighborhood. The driver was unarmed and yet police fired at least 90 (one official stated it was over 100) rounds at the car, most of which missed and many of which embedded themselves in things like neighboring vehicles, houses, went thru windows. It is a minor miracle that one of the neighborhood residents was not injured.

There is no defending the police in this matter.

Before you decide that you will ALWAYS defend the police in California, please refresh your memory regarding the actions in the Rampart Division.

well crow-you and I agree on this.I have to say that people using cell phones while driving really annoys me,let alone dangerous. Here in N.Y.its against the law and the cops WILL ticket you. What really pisses me off is they know its dangerous and they know its against the law but people still do it.

fenix - UNTIL I read or see the article....I can't blame the police. They are ALWAYS blamed as acting inappropriately...when usually there's a reason they did so. Least that's been MY experience living in CA.

But I think any NORMAL person would stop when the FIRST bullet hit their car....just to find out what the hecks going on....UNLESS they had a reason to keep going. AND the police probably didn't know the person DIDN'T have a gun. I'm sure someone will be sued....it's always the bad guys that win the suits and the police, who give their lives to protect and serve who are blamed.

Well, here's the story if anybody wants to read it and judge for themselves.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Investigations are under way to determine why sheriff's deputies fired about 120 shots at a vehicle to end a car chase in Compton, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said Tuesday.

The suspect, identified by Baca as Winston Hayes, 44, was found to be unarmed, but has an arrest record for narcotics and assaults.

Hayes was wounded, but Baca said the injuries were not life threatening. One deputy was also injured, he said, possibly by friendly fire.

Baca said the district attorney's office and sheriff's department were conducting investigations into the incident, including whether the massive amount of police gunfire was appropriate.

"We're going to look at every aspect of this shooting, we're going to examine the intensity of what occurred, we're going to examine our policy, and we're going to again learn from this there is no such thing as a safe shooting anywhere in urban America," Baca said.

Still, he acknowledged, "We can do better. No matter what the circumstances are, we can always to better."

Baca said reports of gunfire in the neighborhood -- an area of Compton that has seen a increase in gang-related gunfire, according to The Associated Press -- brought the deputies to the scene. A white SUV was reportedly involved, Baca told AP.

Hayes was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, AP reported.

"(The suspect) had been circling the block for about four hours, in a strange manner," Baca said on CNN's "American Morning."

After a 12-minute car chase, officers surrounded the vehicle and opened fire, an event captured on video by by a news photographer alerted to the incident by a police scanner.

The sheriff said the vehicle was moving backward toward deputies at one point during the incident.

A deputy who appears on the videotape to have fallen just before the shooting started may have triggered the barrage, Baca said.

Some people who live nearby reported their homes were hit by bullets as well.

None of the deputies involved will be allowed to return to active duty for five business days, and then only after being interviewed by psychologists, Baca said.

"They're going to look at what was the triggering point for the shooting," he said.

It could be "a couple of weeks" before investigators know much more, he said.

Meanwhile, Hayes will be charged with evading a peace officer and assault with a deadly weapon, in this case, the vehicle, police said.

According to the AP, Baca said while no weapon was found in the suspect's vehicle, investigators did find a dozen shell casings in the area where the chase began.

Baca blamed Hayes for leading his deputies on a chase in the first place. "He should have just let them pull him over and do their investigation and we would not have any of this."

CNN's Mark Norman and Maria White contributed to this report.

See....what did I tell you? He COULD have just pulled over....then none of this would have gone down the way it did.

And reading they had his car surrounded while firing...wasn't the same 'mind' picture I had of him driving and them just randomlying shooting all over the place as he continued driving.

YEP...I'm on the side of the police on this one. I've been in Compton, more than once. NO one here would want to drive through there in daylight...if they knew where they were. A VERY dangerous town....full of gangs. Maybe more of you are aware of what Watts was like...when it was in the news. Well...Compton's about the same.

Thanks for going to all the trouble to find that for us, dbl. ------

Just FYI on why I think the police in Compton have their hands FULL.

Linda - he was not "driving" as they fired on the vehicle, he ducked down and the car was rolling forward. Turn on the TV - Fox shows footage of this every couple hours - you can see the incident for yourself. Car was rolling forward from momentum and was surrounded by officers firing repeatedly on it.

Still up huh? I didn't say he was driving...I said by the first account I read here...I had pictured in my mind that he was driving all around..while the police were shooting at him. After reading dbl's CNN article....they had him surrounded and were shooting.

I haven't watched the news for two days now and it's been a nice break. I'll look tomorrow.

But he was circling the neighborhood...and that is what the gangs do before making their 'hits' on a rivals house with their machine guns/simi-automatics. And then not just pulling over immediately at first, when he knew they wanted him to pull over....plus ducking down rather than putting his hands in the air and getting out to cooperate with the police....leads ME to believe that had GOOD reason to take the action they did against the car. It's you or them in that neighborhood.

Fenix, have you heard of the 'bloods' and the
'crips'? Both are old, well organized gangs....the originals...started maybe 25-30 years ago...the bloods gang was formed/started in Compton. The place has only gotten worse as have most of the surrounding towns. We used to have friend that lived in those surrounding areas...when they still belonged to human beings...rather than animals.

Compton is lucky they have ANY police officers who are willing to work that 10 mile town. Heck, our own justice department pays the city of Compton Federal funds, in addition to the local funds used to control these gangs....that's how bad it is there. These guys are MEAN motor-scooters...no 'I'm a rapper' here business....they are killers.

Linda - You don't need to explain gangs to me. I lived in LA for nearly 10 years before moving to San Diego which has just as prolific a problem and know a few surviving OGs from my friends salon which I think I have mentioned in the past.

As for circling the neighborhood...he was in front of his aunts house when he was shot. This is one of those cases where one article is barely scraping the surface of the story.

The fact of the matter is, no matter what the reputation of the area there simply is no justification for over 100 rounds beings fired at an unarmed suspect.

As for ducking down rather than putting his hands in the air... I think you will understand that one when you see the tape Linda. Shots just started ringing out and as soon as there was one, there were dozens. I don't know about you but when I hear gunfire, I duck.

Linda, I disagree with your assessment here and think you might need to reevaluate this one. I am aware of the crime and gangs plaguing LA Counties, etc. but the thing is: you dont need to be patriotic, smart, ethical or even senseable to get a job in a police force or any law enforcement agency. So even they, as a group cannot be lumped onto a one size fits all or put on a pedestal of pristineness, altho we'd like to think so because we see them marching in parades. I think this shows they're running scared and are out of control. Just because somebody's committed a crime, does not mean that when they see a cop or whatever, their first thought is, "they're gonna shoot me." There's something wrong with that. Maybe the neighborhood is bad, but not everybody there is committing crimes. It might sux for them, but they do not have license to do that. They just dont.

db-I cannot speak for the law enforcement agencies in Ca.However to be a N.Y.Trooper you have to have 60 college credits.Does this make you smart? probably not,but it does indicate some degree of intelligence. How many jobs do you know of that you HAVE to have any college at all? After that you have to pass the St police exam and even if you do pass you also are interviewed, with a psychologist in the room. You are also being video taped as you are being interviewed. Then the interviewers and psychologist will look at the video tape and evaluate your answers, your facial expressions and inflections in your voice. This is what they call profiling. They will also ask you shocking questions just to see how you will react.Oh did I also mention you have to take a lie detector test? After going thru all that you still have to pass a physical.Oh did I also mention that you can not have any police record what so ever(even for shoplifting)If you do,don't even bother applying. Oh did I mention after this you still have to go to the St Police Academy for 6 months of hard training, then after that you still have to pass the exam to graduate.Did I forget to mention you are on probation for one full year. You have to ride around with three different senior troopers for one full year and you are evaluated-again.If you fail any of these-your gone. I ask you-what job can you think of that has to go thru all this just have a job???Ethics?? your damn right we have ethics! you BETTER have ethics if you want to work here very long.
Do you realize all our phone calls, radio transmissions and computer inputs are monitored? We are running scared?? Running scared from what?? I can tell you right now sweet cheeks we ain't scared of NOTHING.We are out of control?? You take this one isolated incident and make like every police force in the U.S has gone amuck.Do you realize there are thousands of traffic stops everyday in the U.S. and you make this isolated incident like this is a everyday occurrence.Everytime a trooper, sheriff or police officer makes a stop,he has no idea who he is dealing with.It could be a deadly situation at any given moment.I can tell you, that way to often, a police officer was blown away for no good reason on a traffic stop.So db tell me-how many times did you ever worry that when your husband went off to work that he would come home alive?Quite frankly,I don't think you ever have.

"Just because somebody's committed a crime, does not mean that when they see a cop or whatever, their first thought is, "they're gonna shoot me."

Well ya know what?? maybe they should-there would be a lot less crime if these scumbags had that thought in mind."Just because somebody's committed a crime" By that statement you sound like its okay to commit a crime.

Yo DB-watch it next time you come thru N.Y.-cause "classics" gonna kick your ass and steal your donuts <snicker>

...and I'll tell you another thing while I'm at it! ......

No, they are not all that smart. One duty0free of a ST decided he needed to f/u somebodys day, so it might have well been mine. Here I was driving in the left lane, doing the speed limit, minding my own buzness, and this poke-ya along side of me decides he is cutting over into the left in front of me. Not 2 minutes later rambo gets on the hiway from the ramp and pulls me over for driving too closely behind!

ok you think thats good. Well hutch over here goes into court and tells the judge my distance was one to two cars behind. Well duh! I wasnt driving too closely to start with - he never saw the other guy cut in front of me! And the poke was doing about 45-50. I didnt even have a chance to adjust my stride. Even so, you think one to two cars behind is tailgating the guy?? Now let it be known,..I even saw when kojac got on the interstate as we just passed the ramp when he got on. He wasnt behind me five minutes before he decided to pull me over. (But I do know what axe he was grinding and it had to do with a certain scorned fireman. Nice to have friends and professional courtesy's isnt it?)

Well classic. I lost. This is south. It aint New York. I swear I felt like my cousin vinny in that courtroom!! The minute I opened my mouth, I was gone. Saw it that judge's eyes of the audio recognition. me guilty. He even said I was...now get this..."overwhelmingly guilty"......wtf? A distance of two cars away and I am overwhelmingly guilty?? And trooper johnny got another star to add to his top cop of the stat list. (oh yes, they had that posted right outside in the courtroom bulletin boards. Cops in rank of tickets for the month!) I got an eighty dollar fine and a hike in my insurance. yeah, they're all as wonderful as you.

Yeah, I know sux to be me. But today it's me, tomorrow its you...remember that.

Classic - I think you may be ignoring or unaware of the problems that have occured with California police. If you get bored one day, do a search on the Rampart Division. This is a division that was truly out of control. Drugs were planted on suspects, dealers who were interfering with the officers approved dealers were shot BY OFFICERS, cops were taking pay-offs from dealers... this division and their antics were the inpiration for The Shield. I don't believe that all police are like this but there is a long history in the South LA areas of vigilante and crooked cops.

DBL - LOL on your southern court story... I have one of those too. Was driving on a winding road, had rained all day, water turning to ice and going around a sharp curve I hit ice, then mud, then a tree. I left the scene in an ambulance and when I was released form the hospital three days later was met at the "home" by an officer with a ticket for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. When I went to court I opened my mouth sans southern accent and was found guilty. The person before me was driving down a straight country road and about half a mile up saw a car about to pull out from its drive. This apparently so disturbed the driver that she crossed over, took out two mail boxes on the left side of the road, corrected and took out another on the right, then corrected again, clipped a school bus and ended up in the ditch. Of course she had the great souhtern drawl and was found not guilty.
