Has anyone else been catching the Fox coverage of the insanity in Arruba lately? I think that Shawn Hannity is going to be declaring war on them soon.

Is it really so difficult for Fox employees to understand that the US does not rule the world and that other countries have different legal systems? Does it REALLY matter if the suspects have not been formerly CHARGED as long as they are being held and the investigation in continuing? If an Arruba citizen disappeared in Los Angeles would Fox be lobbying as hard for Arruban autorities to be put in control of the investigation as they are for our government to be put in control of this one?

I think this is a horrible tragedy that is being turned into damn near tabloid journalism by Fox. I would comment on other networks comments but to be quite honest, when I turn to them they seem to be dealing with other topics whereas Fox seems to be all day every day attacks on Arruba. A few more days of this and I don't think there is going to be anyone left on the island willing to talk to them.

I have not been watching the news much lately.

The other cable news, they aren't covering this Aruba story much?

I do know when it came to the Jackson trial, and its end, ALL the cable news had tons of it, MSNBC had it on just all day.

NTS, yes, it is an annoying blaring bunch of crap sometimes, isnt it?! I think its ridiculous when they start with the car chases down some highway...its that really cutting edge news??

But thats why I shut it off every now and then, or like now ...I have the price is right on! LOL! I dont even know why its on. I should just play a cd or something while I do my ebay stuff. But you know what? It just occurred to me I'd really sux at that show, because I never buy anything retail anymore and dont know any of the prices! hahaha!!

btw, I saw a brand new -so it appeared-(singer I think)sewing machine in the box this weekend. The guy wanted 10.00 for it and it had an aafes sticker on it for 39.99 (army px) now I know aafes is about 30-40% off reg retail, maybe it was a $50-60 or more worth sewing machine? I didnt look at it too long or much but I thought about emailing you and asking you if you wanted me to pick it up for you - but since I dont sew I didnt think I could really tell if it was all in working order.?

Fenix, this investigation has gone on to long as it is. If this was my daughter I would certainly be upset, well more than upset, with the dragging out of this case. I can't imagine how I would feel waking up in the morning and not having my daughter around and not knowing if she is alive.

So what if Fox news keeps reporting it. Where does it say they can't? There are other networks so I would suggest you watch them.

I doubt if they will ever find that girl especially alive. I will also make a bet that no schools will be taking vacations in Aruba again.

DBL. I was watching the price is right today also. Tell me how can those young kids pay the taxes on the merchandise they win. A 45,000.00 car. I bet the taxes amount to the price of a low end car.

Libra, youre right about the mother and Aruba losing some major tourism dollars from this. How big is the island they cant find her body anyway? You think she was dumped in the ocean somewhere?

And lol on the young kids on that show!! You can just see it when some of them dont have a clue and are looking to the audience on pricing something! And the retail prices on that show are like always the very high end of the spectrum, I think. I'd usually have something else on the tube what I was watching CBS news early this am so it was just on....

... and yea, wonder how they do pay the taxes...probably mom and dad do

Libra - what do you mean the investigation has gone on too long? What is it that you think should have been done that has not been done? They have suspects in custody, have brought another in, have questioned others that may have information, they let the entire island off work one day to search for her. What is it that is not being done that you feel should be done?

It's not so much that Fox is covering this, it's the overly exploitive way they are doing it. Hannity last night was trying so hard to get the mother to say something negative about Aruba, it's officials, etc. She kept telling him that they were giving her daily updates and as much information as their law allows and that the people of Aruba have been incredible to them. (she is never as discouraged, angry etc when she speaks for herself as she is when someone else is relaying her feelings) Then they do an investigation on "the dark side" of Aruba. That would be about three legal strip clubs. He kept asking the reporter about his sources that reported frequent occurrences of peoples drinks being spiked with date rape drugs. The reporter gets kind of a puzzled look and tell him that in all the time she has been there and talking to people about the area and issues surrounding it that no one has mentioned this at all.

I doubt he means to be as humorous as he is sometimes but I swear sometimes he becomes a caricature of a reporter. His best question of the night was to the 14 and 15 year old soldiers (OK, kidding but have you seen these guys?) that were Saddam's guards. "Could you feel an aura of evil around him?" Come on Sean... that is a Weekly World News question if ever I heard one.

DBL - I heard something in the last day or so that showed that if anything, tourism was up. Never underestimate the wierdness of tourists

DBl - as for the where is she thing... the best was Sunday night when an investigator in Arruba reported on Fox that they were following a van they believed was involved in the disappearance and then there was much convolutedness that was difficult to follow finally wrapping up with the claim that she was being held and her captors were awaiting the opportunity to sneak her to Columbia. (I really wonder if Fox even knows where the line between TV news and tabloid TV are anymore)

One of the dive exerts there stated that dumping her body would actually be pretty difficult since tides would bring it back in on three sides plus the numerous popular dive sites in the area.

I haven't been following much of it either, Double. All I heard was someone on tv say she was probably sold as a sex slave. (??) Is that the Colombian thing you mentioned, Fenix? What's that all about?

That was the implication of the guy but there was no way you could really take him seriously as he claimed to be on a cell phone tracking this van for a couple days but had yet to contact authorities or anyone other than Fox News. The story was so conveluted I kept waiting for him to yell [i]Ba-Ba-Booey[i/] (battle cry of Howard Stern show practical jokers) and hang up but the host kept right on asking him questions.

Her parents are offering a reward.

If you are interested, her mother and Gretta VS met with the parents of the main suspect today. Gretta is going to talk about it tonight on her show. Personally I would rather hear fom the Mother because Grettas style truly is a hairs breath from the National Enquirer but maybe they'll have the mother on too.

Foxes token liberal went down to Aruba today so it'll be interesting to hear this from Colmes's view. Usually they leave him in the studio and send Sean out on location... maybe Aruba officials got sick of his blather and denied him a visa

Does it matter that the world wants the US to provide unlimited financial aid to them?

Fenix, in case you missed it, the authorities in Aruba requested the US send FBI agents to aid in the investigation.

PS if it was your kid missing, who would you want to investigate?

Bear - if I someone I loved was missing in a foreign country I would want someone who knew they lay of the land. I would not want a foreign entity that did not know the players or the customs and that could just as quickly alienate as help. I would also not want an entity to come in that could very well end up violating rights and laws and enable those responsible for the disappearance to be released on technicalities.

Also, in case you missed it, they welcomed help with early search efforts but have turned down additional involvement in the investigation.

: oes it matter that the world wants the US to provide unlimited financial aid to them?.::

No, because that has absolutely nothing with the topic at hand.

I don't agree that her family is being 'kept informed' each day.

The step-father's patience are all gone...and he's pretty near the exploding point.

And early this morning it was reported and being discussed that the mother [and family] had retained a lawyer of their own so they could FILE a lawsuit to be able to learn more of the details they're NOT being told.

They didn't sound too happy to me. They sounded like they've reached the 3 week point since their daughter disappeared and they're beginning to be more demanding about getting more info on her case.

that's what has been reported by the US news but what has come from the authorities is that they have hired an Aruban lawyer that understands their legal system and can help explain it to them and help them maneuver thru it. The only thing a lawsuit can accomplish is shutting down the existing lines of communication. The law people that Fox spoke with in Aruba tonight said that they had all heard they rumors coming from the US press but that the word coming from within Aruba from the people involved is very different.

Would you be shocked if you found out that the reports of the lawsuit were just a bunch of blather from our press that can't deal with the fact that Aruban law does not allow pandering to them?

One of the lawyers from Aruba had an interesting point of view tonight. That as frustrated as Americans may be with the lack of news, there is actually more being enabled by Aruban law than would be by US law. If they were in the US by now the suspects would have to have been released considering they amount of time they have been held and the fact that there is no actual evidence of a crime for them to be charged with yet. In Aruba however, all they need is suspicion. In the US, even if they were in custody with a lawyer they would not have to be subjected to questioning but in Aruba they are under going questioning for up to 14 hours a day. The only rule they have is no interrogation between 10pm and 8am. Think that one would fly here?

Also Linda, you may not agree that the parents are being kept informed but I'm sure you will understand if I'm more inclined to go with the mothers own words than your opinion.
