I just received a phone call that Ryan is in serious trouble yet again. He has a fungus in his blood that is not responding to antibiotics. The doctors don't know how to kill it. If they cannot kill it, it will eventually attack his vital organs. I have advised my brother to contact St. Jude's because I think this whole thing is getting too much for even the Cleveland Clinic.
On a lighter note, the Cleveland Indians are arranging an auction. The winner will get to throw out the first pitch during a game. I don't know yet what the venue will be, but I'll let everyone know.

Cheryl, the family might also want to contact the local Shriner's group. They typically provide help in transporting children and sometimes provide financial assistance as well.
Did the docs ever determine what the original illness was that brought Ryan to this critical point?

I'm not trying to be a dink Cheryl, but it seems like you're doing all the running around and organizing. I just hope you have help, that's all.
My brother (his grandfather) is doing a lot as well. My neice, Krista, has the other two children. That in and of itself is a great help. People have been great!!

Cheryl, I donated what I could and he has my prayers. Please keep us up to date. And link us to any benefits for him if they are available on-line, or info if they are off-line.
You are one of his blessings.

They aren't saying much about what caused all of this. There was a hint that they may have given him the wrong blood type during a transfusion or tainted blood. Blood is sometimes mislabeled and tainted blood does get through. I don't think we'll ever really know. The hospital will cover themselves on that one.
Sorry to hear Ryan's condition is not improving. It is very difficult to deal with a situation like this. Two weeks ago I had a co-worker that suferred a severe stroke. His condition is not very good. It reminds me of the Terry Schivao situation. He is only 42.

Cheryl,
Do any of the practitioners at your clinic know about aromatherapy?
Tea Tree Oil, lavender and lemon essential oils work extremely well, but you really need to work with a pro on a child so young.
I have started using E.O.s in my healing work and am amazed at the results I am seeing.
I have a spiritual advisor that does aromatherapy and the Clinic is very "up" on it. They opened their own alternative therapy (I work for one I helped to start) clinic where they are running trials. She has not been able to get in to see Ryan yet. Only family are allowed in right now. She does have plans to see him once he's allowed other visitors.
We had a massotherapist who, at 81, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She opted not to have the traditional treatments and instead went with alternatives. Magnets were one of the treatments. There is no sign of the cancer anymore. You have to have a strong belief in the stuff or it won't work, IMO. Here in the northeast, people are still way behind the times as far as the alternatives go.

Glad to hear you have a EO/AT close by. I thought you worked with a clinic.
Nice thing about the oils, it doesn't matter what people believe. The oils work at a cellular level and even if you just use them on yourself, they influence the people around you.
Ask your AT what would be the best oils for Ryan. Maybe she can make you a small mix diluted with a carrier oil that you could wear when you go to visit Ryan. It will help him, I'm sure.

St. Jude's will not see Ryan. He's been treated elsewhere is the reason they gave. We'll now check on Rainbow Babies.

LtRay and Cheryl..I know absolutely nothing about aromatherapy and the use of oils in healing..
I would be very interested in learning more.
Would you mind sharing with us here on the RT...either on this thread or start a new one ...about what you know on the subject and what oils do what etc... thanks Maggie

Maggie, I had the same question and found this article about the advantages and disadvantages of "alternative" health practice. At the end of the article is a description and analysis of all such types of treatment with extensive links to more info .... aromatherapy etc.

Cheryl, sorry to hear about the hospital troubles. I know you would prefer to find a hospital closer to home, but has the fmaily considered other hospitals outside of Cleveland?
Here in Chicago, Children's Memorial Hospital specializes in different types of pediatric cancer treatments. I have heard only good things about this hospital.
