“The time has passed when America will make every other nation’s conflict our own, or make other nations’ failure our responsibility, or presume to tell the people of other nations how to manage their own affairs. Just as we respect the right of each nation to determine its own future, we also recognise the responsibility of each nation to secure its own future.”
-Richard M. Nixon
Thanks to a special friend of mine who pointed me to this quote. In his words: "I have said it before and I will say it again - Nixon may have been a crook, but he made a greater contribution to world peace than any US President since."

John F. Kennedy
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

Isn't it odd how things have changed. Nixon's words could have come from a liberal, John Kennedy's from a conservative had they been said more recently.
However, I think the two speeches speak on two different levels. One basically says that we won't pull an "Iraq" on any country. We won't force feed democracy. The other says we will defend any country including our own. Iraq was not a threat. They didn't attack us. Therefore, I think Nixon's speech applies more in this instance.

Richard Nixon's strong point was his foreign diplomacy. His visit to red China etc-also got us out of Viet Nam.Obviously his downfall was that stupid stunt at Watergate. He will always be remembered for Watergate-you have to wonder how he would have been rated if there was no Watergate.

President Bush on Peace:
"Redefining the role of the United States from enablers to keep the peace to enablers to keep the peace from peacekeepers is going to be an assignment." George W. Bush--Interview with the New York Times, Jan. 14, 2001
Now there's a statement to remember!
Classic - I've often wondered myself what type of president he could have been and how the world would have viewed him in the absence of Watergate. He's one of the few republicans I could have stood behind just on his peace keeping skills alone.

Linda - the problem is that half the people will MonicaGate as an embarrasment for Clinton, the opther half see it as an emnbarassment for the republicans that pursued it.

Yes, fenix - I understand some dems excuse his immoral, illegal behavior....and that's their right to do so. I'm saying that all the women, including monica, will remain his legacy. No one's going to change that....just like no one's going to change Nixon's name being synonymous with watergate.
And I often find it so funny how the left here blames this President for just breathing.....yet they won't ever blame their guy for breaking the law, lying under oath, lying to the whole country, lying to his friends and close associates, etc, plus his non-committment to his marriage vows. Nope....his lack of character traits meaning nothing to them.
But then we can all see how differently they react to even the mention of any unproven claim of wrong doing on his part....and they're ready to impeach him. LOL

And why the American Voters chose to RE-elect President Bush to four more years. YES!!!
