hummmmm.....a homegrown terrorist from Orange Co., CA huh? Pretty sad to read that.
-------

But it's the reality we face today. Or I should say SOME of us face. Others just stick their heads in the sand and pretend this is something President Bush has just made up to scare all of us.
----

1. Al-Qaida Plan:

Islamic World in 15 Years

Al-Qaida has a master plan to take over the world and turn it into an Islamic state - by the year 2020.

Wishful thinking? Not in the minds of the top terrorist lieutenants interviewed by Jordanian journalist Fouad Hussein for a new book - including Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, mastermind of many atrocities in Iraq.

The plan, which is revealed for the first time in the Australian publication The Age, has seven phases:

Phase 1: The "awakening" in the consciousness of Muslims around the world following the 9/11 attacks, which were aimed at provoking the U.S. into declaring war on the Islamic world and mobilizing Islamic radicals.

Phase 2: "Opening eyes," the current period, which should last until 2006. Hussein said the terrorists hope to make the "Western conspiracy" aware of the "Islamic community" as al-Qaida continues to form its secret battalions.

Phase 3: "Arising and standing up," which should last until 2010 and bring increasingly frequent attacks against secular Turkey and archenemy Israel.

Phase 4: Lasting until 2013, this phase will see the fall of hated Arab regimes, including Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Oil suppliers will be attacked and the U.S. economy will be targeted with cyber terrorism.

Phase 5: An Islamic state, or caliphate, can be declared between 2013 and 2016.

Phase 6: "Total confrontation," beginning in 2016, will see the Islamic army begin the "fight between the believers and the non-believers" that has been predicted by Osama bin Laden.

Phase 7: "Definitive victory."
Hussein writes that this phase should be completed by 2020, and that the terrorists believe the caliphate will prove victorious because the rest of the world will be beaten down by an army of "one and a half billion Muslims."

If it's true, I too, hope Bush doesn't stick his head in the sand like he did the last time.

Is he reading his daily memos(or having them read TO him)?

Well, it sure scares the crap outta me, which people say is what al-quida wants to do. ... but L.A. mayor says they're aware that they are a target, but that there is no credible chatter or leads that are out there.

... and that makes me "re-realize" (okay, that's not a real word) that there was no credible chatter for Madrid and the London bombings either. L.A., watch your back, and Dubya, watch our back. ugh.

Linda, I doubt it will happen exactly like that, but it's a prime example of how I've explained that Religion is a far more powerful force that most American believe and the irrelevancy of those who wish to NEGOTIATE with these people.

Their God has told them to destroy us. No amount of talk or negotiations will stop their attacks. Only force will have an effect.

Things are only going to get messier over the next few years. What Bush is doing now is just the starting point for what's coming. The next President is going to have their work cut out for them if they aren't the "tough guy" Bush has been.

Bush HAS made mistakes. LOTS of them in fact. But his overall strategy is correct - we need to be heavily involved in the middle east. As he has said, it's better to fight a war over there than over here.

If you feel that it is a credible threat I have to wonder why you would continue to believe that the Saudis are our convert enemies and that they secretly fund an organization whose stated plan of action includes the overthrow of their own nation.

I believe the Saudi royal family ARE our allies, but I also think if the royal family were ever overthrown, our relationship with the Saudi Arabian country would degenerate pretty fast.

As far as the article is concerned, Muslims can hate people who AREN'T our friends too. The Saudis may or may not be true allies, but that doesn't necessarily make any difference to the radical Muslims. The Muslims hate the Saudis simply because they are very secular.

Replay - You are confusing Muslims with Islamic Extremists. Saying that all Muslims hate us is like saying that all Mormon men have a dozen wives. The vast majority of Morons are not bigamists just as the vast majority of Muslims are not extremists.

Also the problem that AQ has with the Saudis is not that they are secular because they definitely are not but is really two fold. The biggest is probably the personal grudge of Bin Laden. Bin Laden gained his distrust of the US when we pulled out of Afghanistan following the Russian invasion. He saw it as desertion of the Afghan people so when Saudi Arabia was looking at a potential invasion he went to the Saudi government and urged them not to depend on or believe in us and instead offered his "troops" to guard the border. Of course he was turned down, he got upset, he got vengeful and as a result he was expelled from his country and stripped of citizenship. Not hard to imagine why that might result in some hard feelings. Then you have the fact that they continue to be friends with a nation that he does not trust and justified his actions with religion, found a sect of beliefs that most closely fit his need and justified his hatred and then twisted it a bit more, and as you look at what has happened in the past few years, found smart people at the top able to twist and manipulate not so smart people into doing the dirty work at the bottom.

He is a sick puppy and by no means should be used as the measuring stick by which other Muslims are judged.

I gotta say that it's a bit surprising that you say that you do feel that they are our allies. It's always surprised me that the one thing that both republicans and democrats have agreed on for the past few years is a mistrust of the Saudis.. even if both sides do give completely different reasons (which is kind of amusing in itself - ever hear two TV talking heads argue over which had the better reason to hate someone before?) It's also always surprised me how many politically savvy people have been played by Bin Laden.

Look at how many different nations AQ cells or ops have been found in. Do you think it's coincidence that so many of the "patsies" (not planners, not trained, just the muscle guys) involved in 9/11 were Saudis? What better way to create a chasm between the US and the Kingdom than to have so many Saudi nationals involved in the attack? Since that worked so well, he played the American public again right before we invaded Iraq. Remember right before the invasion when suddenly there was a new tape from Bin Laden voicing his support for Hussein? Saddam was about as non religious as they come, had killed thousand of Muslims, and is the guy that Bin Laden was ready and hoping to fight ten years earlier. Do you really think he liked him or is it more likely that he was trying to get rid of him and pressure on himself by redirecting the American effort from Afghanistan, where he was hiding, on to Iraq.

Wouldn't life be easier if psychotics were stupid?

"vast majority of Morons are not bigamists"

I'm not generally a grammar nazi, but I couldn't let that one go without a snicker

I really don't know about the Saudi Royals, but they at least PRETEND to be our allies. I suspect a new regime may not even go that far.

I think there were a number of reasons for Bin Laden to get all buddy-buddy with Hussein. He knew we were going to get Saddam sooner or later, and when that happened, Bin Laden wanted to play the "persecution card." By allying himself with a guaranteed future victim of the US, he could be assured of the persecution factor.

Your explanation (redirection) is also valid. Probably reality includes both scenarios- BL is a smart guy.
