I'm just wondering if others on this board are watching it egularly? I know there has been a bit of mention in the past.
Before the show ever aired there was much grumbling from conservatives that the show was little more than hollywood propoganda aimed at softening up the american public towards the concept of a female president to warm them up for a Hilary run in 2008. tha was especially funny if you watched the first episode where the chief of Staff for the "First Gentleman" spent her entire first scene bagging on "Mrs Clinton".
A couple days ago the "propoganda" issue was brought up again in a debate between eraldine Ferraro and a I-Can'tRemember-Her-Name Conservative with Bill Hemmer in the middle. I think the funniest part was when after a few minutes of spewing the "It's a liberal consiracy" theory Hemmer pointed out to the conservative that davis's candidate is an Independent and that she is pretty much surrounded by Republicans the woman responded by saying that she had not actually seen any episode of the show.
So obviously I think her opinion must be thrown out the window so I'm just curious... for those conservatives here that have seen the show... what do you think?
As long as we are talking about political shows... West Wing comments also welcome.
a) I knew Toby was the leak.
b) I can't believe they really let Donna go - her chemistry with Josh was amazing
c) If all democratic candidates would take a cue from the Santos religion text it would immediately weaken the christian rights political power.

What pray tell does that mean?
And is this the Toby you once referenced to calling me? Clue for ya fenix, when ya call somebody a name try to make sure they actually know what youre talking about for maxiumum impact! lol!!
I dont watch any of those shows. Tried watching the Geena Davis one for a bit..maybe because I came in the middle..but it didnt do anything for me.
Near, I like House. I lost interest in lost somewhere along the line

Yes, Ms.Fenix. I am watching and enjoying it.
I like the idea that it portrays Geena Davis as a strong President. As far as the conspiracy theories go..I personally don't see any similarities to Hillary, other than they are both women, do you? LOL...
I really like Donald Sutherland too. Now if it takes a turn into soap opera mode and has the first man chasing skirts etc..I'll lose interest fast..I'd like to see more government and less family soap situations..

Not sure how well I can explain it other than his response is a straight forward, honest and logical response regarding his balance of personal religious beliefs and an upholding of the constitution. I think that his dialog has a way of acknowledging and honoring religion while explaining where he believes it does and does not belong and why.
Regarding the Introduction of "Intelligent Design" into school curiculum....
Do you believe in evolution?
I think it would be fairly difficult to teach geology, anthropology and zoology with out evolution so yes, I do. I don't think that it's contradictory to believe in science, and in god.
Do you believe that that the theory of evolution and intelligent design should be taught side by side in school?
Absolutely not. One is based on science, and one is based on faith. Intelligent design is not a scientific theory, it is an religious belief and our constitution does not allow for the teaching of religion in our public schools....
Many of us here would prefer for our children to be taught all points of view...
And I am all for that. Evolution is not prefect, but it is based on scientific facts. Facts that can be predicted, tested and proven. Intelligent design asks many theological questions. I'm sure that many of us would agree that, at the beginning of all the "begatting"...something begun. What was that something?
.....
Can't we agree that the inclusion of non scientific explanations into the science curriculum of our schools misrepresents the nature of science? And therefor compromises the purpose of our public education, which is, the preparation of a scientific workforce
....
To be a person of faith is to have the world challenge that faith. Was the universe designed by god? That's up to every person in this nation to decide for themselves because the framers of the constitution believed that if the people were to be sovereign, and to belong to different religions at the same time, that our official religion would have to be no religion at all. It was a bold experiment then, as it is now. It wasn't meant to make us comfortable. It was meant to make us free.
And is this the Toby you once referenced to calling me? Clue for ya fenix, when ya call somebody a name try to make sure they actually know what youre talking about for maxiumum impact! lol!!
the only thing I can think of there would be one of my favorite quotes from CJ... You're a very pretty girl Toby. Now, if that's the one you are referring to... you go around changing the name in the quote, it changes all the nuances.

Mags - I really dont see similarites between Davis and Clinton.
As far as the "soap" stuff... I gotta agree. The only kid I like is the youngest one. As for Dad, I don't think he's a skirt chaser, I think the "sparks" between him and the Russian last night were just to justify a conversation between them that was personal rather than diplomatic. It allowed him to hear that the job was only as restricting as he allowed it to be. It was like light bulb moment for him but someone had to usher it in and the moment had to be justified. Please god let him fire that assistant soon though... or at least remove the stick
Personally I think the real "villian" of the series is going o be Henstridges charachter. Sutherland wants Davis out of office but underneath, there is an air of respect for her, if not for her beliefs. Henstridge just strike me as a slash and burn operative type.

sorry fenix, off your topic for a second
Dbl, Lost is really pissing me off.. its going nowhere, but that is what these shows do! I mean we'll never know if they are dead, an expierment or what for at least another season!
Its got me sucked in... its the background of the survivors lives before the crash that I am into now!
And then House, its not been on with new shows cuz of the playoffs, now I could care less about the playoffs, if the Mariners would of made it (HAHA) then I would be watching it!

Now..Bones.. was a complete disappointment.
I know it wasn't supposed to follow the Kathy Reichs character closely, but hey, let's face it, we were all expecting it to... I was totally disappointed with the characters and the acting..ugh

No, I think Mike has watched Bones a few times.
Then there is Invasion on after Lost. I have watched it, but its getting too corny alien stuff, don't think it will last
But on Sundays, HE HAS to watch Desparte Housewives. I watched a few, and it is funny. But after all that (Lost and House) nothing, besides movies!

It's funny - I like her support staff better than her or Boreanaz. Besides, I keep expecting Boreanaz to turn into a vampire or burst into flames when he gets out of the car

I have set up Invasion and Surface on the DVR. I'm not hooked on Invasion yet, it's OK but there is something missing that I can't quite put my finger on... maybe because it's more visual than dialog based and I listen more than I watch.
I do like Surface. It is one of the few shows that makes me want to turn and watch it. Besides... Nim is so damn cute
