Gotta be Breyer's though. None of that junk with the carageenan (seaweed), xanthan gum and other erzatz thickeners for me. Even Ben and Jerry use seaweed to thicken their products. Yechh...

Prof, I have preference for Breyers, too. My favorite is the french vanilla bean and some choc syrup if I'm in the mood.

Hubby likes the expensive Hagen Daas and I cant even trick em with something else cause the flavor he likes is the rum raisin and nobody else makes it,(that I can find). I hate buying it because its so expensive and hardly ever on sale.

Sometimes i like eating vanilla ice cream with a couple of Suzy-Q's or red Zinger cupcakes in the bowl.

Dblf, have you ever tried the Nescafe Ice Java syrup poured over vanilla ice cream? You're supposed to mix it with milk to make an iced coffee drink but it's just as good on ice cream.

Colin, what would you do for a Klondike bar?

Here you go Colin, i found out what you'd do for a Klondike bar. I snapped this picture of you. Is that Maggie on your back?

Colin, what would you do for a Klondike bar?

It wasn't a Klondike bar but.

A few years back a friend and I were out looking for old cars (this is truly a man thing). We saw a Schwan's truck delivering to some ones house.

We stopped and wanted a couple ice cream sandwiches. We had to buy a box of them. I think it was 24.

We ate most of them...cause it was hot and they were melting quick.

Anyone else like Schwan's Ice cream sandwiches.

Schawn's not bad, but nothing beats Tillamook ice cream. Caramel Pecan Praline mmmmmm good.

I didn't know they were nation wide though.

Yes Dblf, i do have a job but i can't tell you what it is or i'd have to kill you afterwards.

My boss' son was a Schawn's delivery driver and he kept us well stocked with free ice cream and other goodies. Schawn's ice cream is one of the best.

Yup classic, chances are, if you look on the ingredient list on the ice cream in your freezer, unless it's Breyer's, you'll find carrageenan listed. It's used as a thickener. It's made from red seaweed that has been put through a strong solution of alkalai to break it down into a long chain polysaccharide. Even the high end ice creams use it, or xanthan gum or both as thickeners. Xanthan gum is made from fermented corn sugar, something I'd say more rightly belongs in Bourbon. Ice cream should be made of eggs, cream, sugar and flavorings and nothing else. It just should.

Beer ice cream goes on sale

The ice cream will be available for a limited period

The distinctive taste of Newcastle Brown Ale has become the latest ice cream flavour from a family-run Northumberland dairy
Newcastle Brown Ale flavoured ice cream was launched on Tuesday by Doddington Dairies, and will only be available during the summer months.

The makers say the handmade ice cream reflects the region's identity, and was even handed out to the European Capital of Culture 2008 judges on their last visit.

Newcastle Brown Ale has already been used as an ingredient in locally produced products, such as bread.

Famous brand

Although the ice cream is made using the ale, under licence from brewers Scottish and Newcastle, the cooking process means it contains less than 1% alcohol.

Jackie Maxwell, director of Doddington Dairy said: "We were looking for an ice cream flavour that was distinctive, and had a strong identity with the region.
"Newcastle Brown Ale has all of that.
