They just showed a blurb from a McCain appearance at a high school here in the Twin Cities. Some creepy woman came up to him and wanted to have the microphone to say that she was afraid of Obama because he is an Arab. McCain showed a lot of class when he answered, "No ma'am. He is not. He is a decent family man. I happen to disagree with him on a lot of issues but he is a good American"

This came after a lot of negative publicity criticized that McCain and Palin were encouraging rather than containing hate-Obama racism smears at their rallies.

I think McCain had a chance to tone it down all week as the crowds became more hateful but he didn't as he's desperate enough to sink to any lows to win. It's backfired on him and now he is playing 'nice guy'. He should have full control of what his campaign is doing, what Palin is saying and what ads are being run. If he doesn't, then it means if he does get voted in he won't have any control over others around him either.
Personally I think all of it is disgusting. Ever since the day after the VP debate when McCain said "How about Sarah Palin" and he kept grunting "Heh Heh" over and over, he reminded me of a creepy old man seeking viagra and he seems even less presidential to me now.

I agree - it's too little and probably too late. I seriously don't think he is comfortable with the direction his campaign has taken but I think he relinquished the reins to Karl Rove long ago. He is just the front man - sad way to end a career.

Like a lot of men (not all of them, of course), McCain is one of those guys who turns to mush around a woman he finds attractive. For some of these men, attractive is enough. She doesn't have to have other fine attributes. And then they assume ALL men will react the same way and just vote for the darling girl.
When I worked with a large Chamber of Commerce, the women members confided in me a lot. One of their ongoing themes was that the young blondes often got the promotions and raises (in more ways than one, LOL) over more accomplished and competent women in a company.
I think this is one of the reasons women aren't flocking to Sarah Palin's side; we can see that she must have been picked more for her looks than her talents--and deep down, a lot of us resent that.

Neglus, I agree. The entire show was orchestrated by Rove/Cheney. Palin delivers the lie and McCain delivers the pitiful finale.
With twenty four days left can they bury themselves any deeper?

A dear friend of mine called me about a poll that was taken. I'm not sure who did it, but it showed that a large number of men love Palin. However, an even larger number of women hate her. Men tend to see the physical. Women go for substance. I think they underestimated the intelligence of women everywhere. They brought Palin in to interest the women (and some men as well) and it more than just backfired. It blew up in their faces.
Hate is a very powerful thing. For those interested, here is Ayers blog: http://billayers.wordpress.com/. The hatred being spewed here is frightening. McCain't and McPalin have endangered the lives of this man, his family, and Obama by labeling them terrorists. Low and despicable.

I disagree that men are duped by a woman's appearance any more than women are duped by a man's appearance, especially when the criteria under consideration is competency to become Vice President of the United States.
Sara Palin's incompetence was revealed almost immediately.

And I respectfully disagree with you Helen. Men and women are different.
One of the periodicals my husband subscribes to (I think it was Scientific American but not sure) published a study of some of our differences. The results of the study were that men's IQs go down significantly when dealing with an attractive woman in the room.
Feel free to disagree.
One of the seminars I learned so much from, as a woman, in the mid-'80s, taught us that we must not appear as if we're ready to play rather than to work. The leader (a man) said that big hair and all the trappings, on a pretty woman, often causes a sort of work stoppage; that it's a distraction that can affect outcomes of a meeting. The woman may have something significant to add to the group's discussion, but it gets lost in the hormonal ether.
I know it's hard to believe.

Dana Bash said on CNN that she had talked to the woman after the rally but I hadn't seen the video so thanks for the link, Profe. While I realize it's free speech, the ignorance is astounding and definitely fueled by the letters and e-mails sent out and by the ones who sit on chat boards and make it their agenda to keep promoting the lies and hatred with copy and paste opinions by those who are just as ignorant or hateful.
Yet Cindy McCain just accused Obama of running the dirtiest campaign in American history. Amazing.

Too funny, Roadsmith. Maybe that's why, when I was young and beautiful, I was able to get a good job by defining the difference between a debit and a credit.

I did all I could to resist watching that video, Prof, but went ahead anyway. I can't begin to tell you how angry that bitter old hag made me. She is precisely one of the reasons there is still so much bigotry in this country. She's nothing more than a "good old boy" dressed in woman's clothing. Her comment that her children and grandchildren feel the same way sickens me. Yet another generation taught that hate is the way.
Sick.

It would be nice to think that physical attraction doesn't matter, but I'm afraid I agree with roadsmith. Bill Clinton had undeniable attraction for lots of women, and I think the same is true of Palin's attraction for men. I've heard lots of the local bubbas around here going on about what a babe she is. Too shrill for me though, no sultry happening.

Yes, profe, I'm as horny as the next guy, but there's nothing good happening to me when I look at her. My recollection from my youthful days was that I never felt amorous while getting sick to my stomach, so I guess some things don't change.
I won't take sides on which gender is more befuddled when aroused. I've seen men and women both make some really goofy decisions in the presence of someone they're attracted to. I do think that men probably are less discriminating about what will "raise their interest," but in a situation where a man and a woman are equally aroused, I'm not sure that there's a big difference in how many good ideas can dance on the head of a horny person.

Arent these folks like corporate gadflies in annual stockholder meetings?
Paid to say this or that?
When I was a student in the early 80s,we visited Chase Manhattan Bank and David Rockyfeller was the CEO.
He gave a speech and one man stood up and asked him why he does not run for president, since he is so wise,so intelligent,so kind and so generous and so so so ?
David Rockyfeller just ate it all up,and he replied NO.
When you have money and power.there are many things money can buy,Malcom Forbes ,bless his soul, told us long ago!
He said 'It is always good to have some money.Money may not buy everything, but it can buy many things!'

hwahwa: They got to feel like they mattered, which is more rare and more valuable than a phone card. Don't project your cynicism on others.
