A penguin found wandering outside a fast-food restaurant in Australia is being treated for depression.

Police say they have no idea how the dazed and confused bird came to be alone on the streets of a Melbourne suburb. Vets say the excitement of being caught and media attention upset the animal, which is more at home in the Antarctic.

The penguin is now being cared for at Melbourne Zoo, where experts are trying to rehabilitate it. Zoo spokeswoman Judith Henke told The Age newspaper:
"Stress alone can make them very ill and kill them. They are not geared up for this and they get very depressed."

Does anyone have any Thorazine in penguin dose's, or Penguin Prozac?

My heart bleeds for this poor little guy, cast upon the fatal shore...

"and not one friend to soothe his heartfelt pain."

Rather than Prozac and Thorazine, a better
solution is instant death.

Gee, Helen I hope I am never depressed in your neighborhood, I believe in better living through chemistry.Let's give the
Penguin a break and at least try to rehab him! Then when he is perky we can decide if
we should let him live or not!!

Krs,

Nothing is good without you!

The plight of the Penguin reminded me of the convicts from England
displaced to the shores of Australia. Robert Hughes wrote a very
good book about this called Fatal Shore...an epic of Australia's
founding.

Edited to correct the name of the book.

I found this: Men are like penquins;

"The Oct. 1995 issue of Across the Board p. 10, had an item that some might find interesting written by Rhona Mahony, who wrote Kidding Ourselves: Breadwinning, Babies and Bargaining Power. Her concern was that fathers aren't taking a 50-50 share of household duties largely because few are willing to jump in the untested waters first - hence men are like penquins who wait on the ice's edge for a few to jump in first to see if a hungry walras awaits them".

I don't know why that would bother anyone though.

take me to the moderator!!! I'm doing the
absolute best that I can.

With Penguin for a topic, It's difficult to
stay focused.

krs,

I deleted your *post in which you say you have a problem spelling that username correctly.

The Member of AW that you and HJW are speaking of is not even posting to this thread and your comments are hurtful. A little common courtesy goes a long way.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Well of course Percy Penquin is depressed.

Wouldn't you be, he's been dumped in the wrong city!!

He was meant to be in Sydney for the Gay Mardi Gras not Melbourne for the Grand Prix.

I also suspect the penguin in question has recently given up smoking.

The penguin is depressed over the fact he lives on a ice cube! It is obvious he was trying to migrate to a warmer climate. just the thing birds do!
To make matters worse, his depressed state is not likely to improve any time soon, The human attempt to rehabilitate this
penguin will at some point return him to the ice cube!
