This issue was raised here. Do you agree that we have a PC problem?

Discuss.

Maybe a RAM upgrade would help. Oh wait...

James,

I must protest your casual use of the word "powwow" as it takes a cavalier approach to a time-honored Native American institution, which in the native language was actually known as the "pau-wau."

ROLF, james

As much as I would like to examine this knotty problem, I'm going to be absent for at least a couple of weeks, so I am forced to reluctantly leave its resolution to the rest of you.

I'd love to play tonight, but just got back from the inlaws (no, not married, but after 6 years might as well be....already have chaffing from the ball and chain). I belive they sapped every ounce of humor I had left.

Be nice.

Dan, where the hell are YOU going?!?!

Spaz,

I was shocked to see that you've chosen to chastise me. I suppose I'll have to put you back on my ignore list, which I temporarily removed you from to view your post.

Firstover, thanks for the advice.

Phew, James! For a minute I thought you were going to remind everyone that I was the person who used the word first in the other thread. I don't want anyone to know.

Sorry, enchanted. It was a joke. Meant to convey a degree of irony. The tone of this thread did not appear to be serious and I thought the use of two un-PC terms would be seen as such. If it still offends you need only say the word and I'll edit.

Seriously, though, it's going to get to the point where we can't talk about anything because somebody is going to feel uncomfortable.

It's ironic. We live in America, the land of the melting pot. Our language is rich with words derived from other cultures, words which have been in use for generations, yet suddenly we're supposed to think twice before we use them. Or not even dare. I think it's baloney.

I think the reason PCism refuses to go away is because it gives people with chips on their shoulders a place to hang their hats (yes, yes, I know it's a mixed metaphor).

not mine either---but me thinks this thread just might bring a bit of the bad out in all of us....even if one is being ironic

Is piffle of an ethnic origin?

Zazzie, I see what you're saying.

The problem, as I see it, is that the rise of the "pc" notion has grayed what is and is not acceptable to say and what really is and isn't offensive. Once you mix in the legitimate with the ludicrous (let's face it -- some of what is supposed to be politically correct is absolutely ridiculous) we've all got a problem.

I was just gonna use that word on ya Spaz!! and what I was going to say was

Spaz, that's a pile of piffle! You can't tell me you don't have some hot buttons, be it sexist, racist, religionist(ya ya--that' not a word) that when a word or phrase is used it rattles your cage........

James I like the way you express your thoughts.

Is the moon still full tonight?

Zazzie you've hit the nail on the head... yes I believe I've seen Spaz protest against the use of certain words that were insulting to a certain gay poster... so there must be some words that are not acceptable to each of us, although to each of us it's different words.

the question is really how and where you draw the line, eh?

it's the moon maybe...
