Hi All!

There are many people in the world who seem to consistently become victims in one way or another.

How about you? Do you find yourself taken advantage of a lot?

And how do you react when it happens? What can be done to prevent it in the future?

Hi. I don't see myself as a victim, but I do see myself as a pushover. Maybe in some ways this allows people to take advantage of me more often than not. Gee, I'm not sure what the answer is but it'll be interesting to see some points of view here.

Hi Malkav99!

When you're in pushover mode, can you see it coming? And do you have anything you do to try to avoid being taken advantage of?

I think I'm in pushover mode all the time. I don't like arguing so I tend to allow others to get their way at times. It's not that I avoid confrontation but I do find myself being taken advantage of at times because I'll give in faster. Make sense?

Yup - it sure makes sense to me. I'm one of those people that has a real hard time saying no - for any reason - so I have to be careful to avoid situations where it would not be to my advantage to say yes.

Of course - if it's obvious at the outset that it would be stupid to agree to something, I can say no - I just don't like to.

How NOT to be a pushover.

Many years ago, whilst in student, do anything for money mode, I was babysitting the phones in a sales office. Phones did not ring. Not having anything to do, I read the sales training materials. Long story short, the one thing a salesperson cannot counter, as far as objections go, is "It just doesn't feel right." This works in most situations, and has been very useful to me in avoiding saying yes when I want to say no. Hope this will help someone.

See, I hate to say no too. Like if someone suggests a place to go and I really don't want to, but I'll say yes anyway.

I agree too that if it's something that I really should say no to, I will.

Are we the only ones here tonight? I've been watching this board for a few months and finally signed up today. I flit around from board to board but this one usually seems much livelier. I like what I've seen of the people that post here - such interesting discussions. Sorry to have changed the subject.

Hi jps!

I've used that one, also I really don't have time now, and 'sorry, I have another commitment', among others. With some people though, nothing works and you just have to break down and say no.

malkav99 - there are many very interesting threads and posters here. I think you'll really enjoy yourself. Although I don't use them, I understand that the auction tools are pretty good also, though a little pricey.

Therpowen, I don't do auctions. I buy from them once in a while, but I don't sell. That's why it took so long for me to sign on - I was afraid I didn't have much in common with most of the people on this board. But I see here that they discuss things other than auctions. I guess in other areas they discuss auctions, but here in the Round Table they have a variety of subjects being discussed.

Ooooh this does look interesting....does
pushover refer to round heels? Or am I OT?

Hi Zilvy!

Round heels are on topic with me all the time!

malkav99, you can find a thread on almost any topic you care to discuss somewhere on AW, although you have to be careful with some things because the CG's allow people as young as 13 to access the boards, and there are other areas that the moderators keep a pretty close watch on - attacking other posters, posting links to competitive sites, and blatent advertising, among other things.

Kids that are 13? Really? And I'll be sure not to mention any of the other boards that I frequent. I don't want to get in trouble my first day in school.

But it is true, I have seen some interesting coversations when I was in lurking mode. As I said, I came across this board a few months ago, but I haven't been here in the last few weeks. I was away on vacation so I pretty much stayed away from computers.

Hi Zilvy!

If therp is riding off into the sunset, odds are real good that the back of the horse is empty. At least that't the way it's been lately.

And the rest of you will have to keep up with the copious drinking - I don't drink.

Ok, Ok - I do drink Pepsi, and an occassional glass of water. But never on horseback. And I'm usually working at sunset.

What I actually meant though, was that I don't drink alcoholic beverages. No interest in them.

Do you run auctions therp?

As of earlier today, I don't think I have any running anywhere right now (darn autorelists!). I did have from 1200 to 1500 running at any given time on Yahoo! before they implemented listing fees. With the items I sell (Magic: The Gathering cards) it isn't practical to pay a listing fee, it would end up costing more than the profit in most cases.

I used to list the higher priced cards on eBay for awhile, but the fees there ended up chewing up all the profit on those also. Lately I've just been posting a few on the different free auction site's now and then, but have basically decided to take an extended vacation from it.

(big blush) thanks Therp

1500 auctions at one time? And to think I got burned out after running only a hundred or two a month. I'm not running any now either but need to get back to doing it. This break sure has felt good though, very refreshing. It's the first time in almost 3 years I don't have auctions running.

enchanted, if you don't mind my asking, why did you stop running auctions?

Hi Enchanting!

The bulk loader made it a lot easier to list them, but the packing and shipping and emailing took up almost all of my free time. I'll probably start auctioning again soon, but the time off still feels nice!

malkav99, I changed from selling antiques and collectibles to primarily selling books on other Internet sites. I still have a lot of stock to sell off on ebay so need to continue the auctions for a while, but have been enjoying this break. My husband still sells on ebay though, computer stuff and some collectibles. I will probably always buy and sell on eBay but not at the level I used to.

yes the packing and shipping is what caused the burnout for me too.
