My first post in the RT.
Yes I do cuss like a Truck Driver always have and always will.
Here the funny part.....
I have 4 adopted children from Korea, They have always heard me cuss.
I have raised then to know the they are "ONLY WORDS" subject to interpretation.
I also told them that they could think and say them all they wanted to in their OWN PRIVACY", NEVER, NEVER in front of an adult as it was very Un-acceptable.
No problem!
My youngest daughter turned 20 yesterday and for the "first time" she uttered a cuss word in front of me.
I just giggled....and thought my gosh, she is an adult now.
Time flies when your having fun!

I used to swear, but now I don't. It wasn't a conscious effort....it just happened. In fact, now when I hear someone that's older swearing, I feel bad for them because it seems outdated. Try saying F.O. to someone........it doesn't sound right anymore...it sounds dopey and the words don't flow like they did when we were younger.

I never ever cussed until I went to work at a ship yard. I wouldn't allow the men to cuss or spit in front of me. (I was much younger and cuter then, I could get away with it... ) They would still let one slip out every now and then, and then apologize profusely.
Shortly after leaving my employment there I discovered that every other word began with "S" or "F"!
I've gotten back off of the cussing, it's been 20 years... but dang it all to hades, if I stub my toe you'd best cover your ears!
Welcome to the RT Packer, I've enjoyed your posts on EO for a while now!

Welcome to America, kids.
I don't think there's any justification for swearing in front of children.
I have raised then to know the they are "ONLY WORDS" subject to interpretation.
They're not "only words." They are words that have very precise meanings. How wonderful that you fill your children's innocent lives with vile references to intercourse, defecation and human anatomy on a constant daily basis.
I'd say the worst part is that you sound like you're proud of yourself. But the worst part is the part we don't see here, when those little kids go off on their own and start emulating the way you speak. Vulgar language never sounds so bad as when it comes from the mouth of a child.

LOL
Yes if I stubbed my toe you'd probably hear the "F" word.
But no..."F" word is not in my vocabulary. But there are certainly many others that are.
Well the deciding factor for me about cuss words were when I was very young in my early 20's I met a gal from "sweden" I think(alzhiemer)that said the word "F---ING" meant "birds", I decided right then and there cuss words were an "ADULT" hang-up.
So when the mood strikes me they fly fast and furious

Hey Spaz,
Lighten up, I'm not talking VULGAR here.
Gosh.....
I'm talking your everyday stuff thats now heard all over the "NETWORK" tv.
At least my children arn't SHOCKED when they hear it.
It seems cussing is pretty common place anymore whereever you go.
I'm glad I gave my kids a prelude to the future.
We are neither SHOCKED or disheartened!

I refer you to the title of this thread, I cuss like a Truck Driver!!!!!
Have truck drivers suddenly become choosy about the degree of foulness they incorporate into their language? Have they taken a pledge that states, "Thou shalt not utter the F word" or "Thou shalt keep thy salty language within network censor standards?"
At least my children arn't SHOCKED when they hear it.
Of course they aren't. They have the dubious honor of proclaiming "My parent cusses like a Truck Driver!!!!!"
I'm glad I gave my kids a prelude to the future.
Some future you showed them.

I too swear like a sailor - at inanimate objects and bad drivers. But I've toned it down a lot in the last few years in public.
This way, when it's really time to tell someone to go **** themselves, they know I mean it.

Packer:
Good to see you here! Welcome!
Hep:
LOL!! How the %!$%&+@#$ have you been?
I usually don't swear in front of my kids.
Only for the 911 stuff (like when my 7 yo broke my 9 yo's hand with a toy hockey stick).
Sometimes it just falls out.
Funny this thread should start today.
My bf's son (also 9) called my son a #*!@ this morning.
My son called him a #*!@ back.
These kids no *nothing* about what a #*!@ is, but they are well aware of what it means to be Gay.
They were mortified when I explained what a derogatory comment they had made regarding homosexuals.
They were both embarassed to find out the negative connotations of a word they had just "heard" and repeated.
(we practice tolerance at my house. Everyone is different.)

There is nothing "adult" about cussing. Certainly doesn't sound mature. Sure, everyone may swear when they hit their thumb with a hammer or crack a kneecap against a desk or some such. But you have to wonder about people who can't seem to speak without cursing--either IQ or education is lacking (certainly verbal skills are in the dumpster).

As long as you don't swear like a sailor you've got nothing to worry about.

Well I never said I was smart and never been accused of it.
Just for the record, I did refrain quit a bit when the kids came, but I did have a few favorites that I did keep.
I was married 12 years before we were fortunate to get our 1st daughter.
In that 12 years I watched all my friends raising their children.
I've seen uptight mothers slap their kids senseless for repeating a naughty word they heard.
I made up my mind that for heaven sakes they are only WORDS and certainly not worth the slapping and put down to the children for uttering them.
And its far better they hear them from me first(and I teach them how unacceptable they are) then to have them learn them on the school play ground or in a classroom.
I told them that they were only WORDS and adults use them, and what ever you do if you feel the need to say them just MAKE SURE no adult hears it.
My oldest son when in the first grade came home and told me of a classmate that was cussing in class and got into BIG trouble for it.
I asked if he ever used those words at school and he said "NO WAY, I know that the teachers don't like to hear them coming from us".
I got good kids all in college now and certainly not UPTIGHT to hear swearing.

(In case anyone is wondering, many many months ago, Packer made the mistake of posting to complain about all the edited posts in the EO and how annoying it was. That was encouragement enough for KRS who promptly started to edit all of his posts, adding a line stating "edited for Packer". )
