Nineteen items were listed on Bidville, rotated for six months, all receiving no bids. So then along comes eBay's free listing day so they're all cancelled from Bidville and moved over to eBay, where ten items were sold with the following results:

First item, one bid at $9.95; second item, one bid at $4.00; third item, one bid at $4.00; fourth item, started bidding at $4.00, but has ten bids at $20.50; fifth item, one bid at $4.00; sixth item, one bid at $9.00; seventh item, one bid at $4.00; eighth item, one bid at $8.00; ninth item, one bid at $19.00; tenth item, one bid at $4.00.

Here's the breakdown:

At Bidville, ZERO sales, ZERO profit.

At eBay, ten sales totaling $86.45; cost of items sold $18.00; "listing" (assumed they had to be paid even though it was a free listing day) and final value fees, $16.00; profit of $52.45, or 61%; sell-through rate 53%.

We all know that Bidville is a few pageviewers and even fewer bidders auctionsite, but now I'm wondering if the average sale isn't around a one, maybe two dollars, there which would make items listed for a several dollars "beyond the reach" of their buyers.

edited to include "fees".

You will NEVER see that statistc from Bidville because you are probably very close. The nickle and dime cards must offset the few $5+ items. I estimate the figure at no more that $2.50 . What's the 5% FVF of $2.50? Twelve and a half cents. Even if there was a FVF on sold items it would have little impact on the bottom line there in lonely town.

hahaha!!!
You crack me up with your lame slams!

several dollars "beyond the reach" of their buyers.

Does this figure ~cost of items sold $18.00~
include what you paid eBay to sell your items? I don't really care (as I suspect MANY don't) Just thought I'd ask.

cya,
I'm off to the PO to mail items to BidVille
Buyers!

How many items? And the total bid value of those items?

< LOL > I make a statement that the average sale at Bidville is just one or two dollars, providing the opportunity for Bidville Cheerleaders to prove me wrong. < LOL >

You're right. I had intended to include them and then forgot. If you'll check again you'll see I've now included both listing fees and final value fees.

Sorry for the oversight.

How's this for a theme for an advertizing campaign for Loney Town? A variation of the very popular "Got Milk?" campaign .... here goes ... "Got a Buck? ... BidVille's Just Around The Corner". The core of the campaign slot could mention that not the majority of the items in the town are around a dollar. "Have a Dollar and Have a Blast at BidVille" ... As the famous Laslo Troth ( Don Novello ) says "Feel free to use that slogan if you wish".

Probably pretty close.

Right now Bidville has 669,000 listings, of which 332,000 listings are "sports cards". That's nearly half of all listings.

And, of course, we've been told that its a fabulous selling experience in that category, but you have to relist, relist, relist .... 99 times ... relist. But I digress. < LOL >

Anyway, for every nickel and dime card sold there's got to be a corresponding $4.00 sale for the "average" to be $2.00.
