Has anyone had any luck with this site?

I don't put stuff for sale there but I have bought from Grab A Bargain. The seller I purchased from had some super nice books--ones I couldn't find anywhere else.

wally, how did you find out about grab a bargain. Other than another thread on the ebay board, & a reprinted article here on AW, I have seen nothing about them.

Welllllll, on my website I have a list of over 100 auction sites and a message on that page inviting anyone who knows about any sites I don't have to write to me and let me know so I can add the site. I also publish a newsletter and write articles about the up-and-coming sites in addition to general auction information so I end up with quite a few site representatives contacting me for inclusion in my site and send press releases for my newsletter.

One of the folks from GrabABargain wrote to me at my website address and asked me if I'd take a look at their site for inclusion in my list. We wrote back and forth, mostly me asking questions for a newsletter article, and when I had an opportunity I took a good look at the site and registered there.

Since that time I've also noticed a couple of people over on the OTWA board who have their listings at Grab-a-Bargain in their sig lines.

I'd been looking for a site like that for some time that wasn't Half.com (don't want anything to do with e-Hem). I was real glad to have that e-mail!

It also helps to restore my faith in some of these site owners because they're not out spamming everyone. I hear about them because I ask that they write.

My experience is as a buyer only.
I only heard about this site from the article on AW. When I checked it though all the items I wanted only ranged 15 to 30% off retail. The same items on Half.com were from 50 to 80% off so it was no contest.

For cd's I ended up buying at Switchouse.com which I found right here on AW's Universal Search results. I had never heard of them but they had over 4 million ads & users with a lot of feedback so they must have been around a while. I found it a pretty neat site. They had fixed price, trade & make offer ads to choose from. I only used fixed price and what I liked was CC payment was optional. I opted to pay the sellers direct with checks instead of putting my CC on yet another site.

I will continue to check all these sites as well as auctions. The problem I found with auctions was most sellers wanted $4.00 -$5.00 for PM/dc/sh on 1 CD instead of Media rates which made their deals a lot worse than these sites with fixed shipping.

Kasmoon, I truly don't understand why so many sellers insist on shipping CDs Priority Mail--it really hurts the buyers big-time.

When I've sold CDs I've shipped them First Class in a bubble mailer for $1.50 s/h. In a case like that I prefer to offer First Class over media mail as media mail can be so slow and when it comes to possibly heat-sensitive stuff I'd rather it ship a little faster.

At any rate, I've gone completely off topic.

Oh Wallypog
I guess I was thinking of books for media rate. CD's are only $1.03 postage for first class, even cheaper than media.

The longest it has ever taken me to receive a Media package was 6 days. I've heard complaints of slowness but never experienced it myself sending or receiving. I've had some first class take 15 days and PM take 10 days so if media is cheapest I always elect that.

I don't know why any seller would use PM for a cd. Maybe they insist on having deliv confirm and think it's only available on PM? I can't think of any other reason.

All I can suggest is patience. According to the AW article:
"A "seven figure" marketing campaign is in the works, though, according to the company's site announcement, to fund site giveaways and radio, billboard, and banner advertising. And, following the Half.com blueprint, the site also plans to introduce video games, computers, and electronics by the holiday season."

I got a response to an email I sent & the advertising campaign has not started yet. They do respond well to emails, real responses not canned, I hope this does not change when they get busy. Communicating with Half. is so frustrating!

I must say they are very quick to reply to questions & no canned responses. I asked another question yesterday & got a response in less than 12 hours.
