I like to list for only week at a time because it seems to take forever if I get
a bid for the auction to end. I'm sure
the buyer feels the same. Yet, I find that it is more work having to relist so often. I see other sellers list for 14 or 21 days. Should I also list for this length of time and maybe get more bidders?

Homestead, I list on Bidville, not epier, so I am not familiar with their auction length options. I sell glass, china and pottery collectables.
It is my experience that the longer auctions are better, especially if you are featuring the item.

Not everyone agrees with me on this, and I have seen people say they will not bid on an auction that still has weeks to go. Regardless, I find more exposure with the 30 day auctions.

And before someone else comes in with remarks, I do not use the 99 relists.

I feel the auction needs time to ripen, like fruit or wine. If you think the waiting is bad, you can cycle your auctions so that you have some close every day, or every week if you like.

I use a standard seven day auction. My logic for doing this is that if there's two identical items being offer, one that ends in seven days and another ending in thirty days, I'll get the bid because the bidder won't be too keen on waiting three more weeks for the other auction to end.

I really think it depends on the type of merchandise you're listing and where you're listing it.

I usually sell the more unique type collectibles. When I used the big site I listed almost strictly for 10 days (before that extra 10-cent fee). I almost always listed on Friday nights for Monday night end times. Many bids would come in during the first couple of days (first weekend), then more bids during the week and bunches on the next weekend and Monday.

I would've missed a lot of bids had I run for less than 10 days because during that time when your auctions aren't showing front and center (beginning or ending) there can still be people searching for that item.

Thanks, Jimhhow and dimview, for the feedback. I am trying the 21 day auctions on ePier to see what develops. I guess a person has to experiment with what does best on different sites.<BR>
Like wallypog, I use to use the 10 day auctions until the fee was increased. But I found it didn't matter on that site how long an auction runs, the bidders usually don't hit until the last couple of days. So the extra fee was a waste of money. I did like listing on Friday because it covered two weekends. I like my auctions to go off on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If I listed on Friday I got a break and didn't have to list again until Tuesday and Wednesday. That meant I had several 10 day auctions, and the rest were 7.

I use 10 day auctions , When I use 7 I seem to get less bids on my items and if I use more the auctions are to long lots of veiw few bids ......

I do feel 10 days is a long time, but at same time it gives more advantage to more overall views. I use Bidville, and list for 10 days with 7 relists, that way the item ends on a different day for those 7 relists.
I also put in a buy it now feature on 99 percent of the items, so then those that don't want to wait can just go for it.
This seems to work for me fine.
On Yahoo I go 10 days but only list on a thursday, this way I get two weekends of looking before it ends.
Ebay I list on Mondays for 7 days only.

I think so. 7 days is best in truth. Anything else and people are lying.

7 days is only good if you never relist. 5 days is better as your item if it don't sell on the first listing may on a different listing because it will be seen by a different group because it will end on a different day of the week. Using 7 day auctions will only be seen primarily by the same people and usually will get passed upon.
