Email received from ebay!
,
Today, we are announcing two changes to the current eBay price structure. Effective Wednesday, January 31, 2001, we are increasing insertion fees and adding a charge to the 10-day listing option. Final value fees, other feature fees and insertion fees for vehicles, eBay Premier and Real Estate remain unchanged.
Insertion Fees
Here are the old and new price schedules for insertion fees:
Opening Value or Reserve Price
Current Insertion Fee New Insertion Fee
$0.01 - $9.99 $0.25 $0.30
$10.00 - $24.99 $0.50 $0.55
$25.00 - $49.99 $1.00 $1.10
$50.00 -$199.99 $2.00 $2.20
$200 and up $2.00 $3.30
10-Day Listing Option
A new ten-cent ($0.10) fee will be implemented for the 10-day listing option. The three-day, five-day and seven-day auctions will not have an additional fee.
We recognize that price increases directly impact our sellers. The last time insertion fees or final value fees were increased was December 1996. We will continue to build a vibrant marketplace by investing heavily in technology, marketing and customer support to make it possible for millions of people to discover and use eBay.

coolvette,
Your posts regarding Bidbay have a promotional tone. Please tone it down. Enthusiasm is fine, but promotion is a violation of the CGs. Please keep that in mind.

LOL. (sorry)
ahmmmmmmm: Postal rates went up, paypal fees increased fo some of us who sell, my health insurance went up, my property taxes went up, my homeowners insurance increased, yahoo started charging. I am not happy with increased ebay fees, but I will continue to pay the basics because I believe it is still cheaper than a classified ad and that is WHERE the bids are.

I commend George and BidBay for making an effort to keep the listings free at BidBay.
But the simple fact is regardless if eBay charges another nickel or even a dime, I'd rather pay that nickel where I know an item is going to sell for what it's worth than sit around and not sell at a site that let's you list it for free.
I had a number of collectibles I started off at BidBay at prices far too low in hopes of catching interest ($5.99). I moved them to eBay and ended up getting $15-$20 apiece for them.
I had some great experiences at BidBay, but once the sales dropped off drastically with the implementation of the contests I had to move all my items to the only site that is making any money. And there's no looking back now.
But regarding paying fees at eBay vs free at BidBay it reminds me of an old joke I can't remember the comedian but basically the punchline is something like this:
Half off of crap is still crap.
In other words free doesn't do me a bit of good, nor you if you aren't making any money off of it.
