=== THE PIXIEPLANETS CONCEPT
HTTP://WWW.PIXIEPLANETS.COM
We are very excited about the introduction of our "Pixie Planets" beta program. Our purpose is to involve YOU in the design and decisions that will result in the release of many fun, exciting and successful sites.
Our goal is to build a network of individual niche e-commerce sites that:
1. Share a common user registration database
2. Share a common accounting system
3. Share an integrated search engine
4. Share an integrated bulk loading tool
=== THE PIXIEPLANETS.COM SITE
The hub of activity during our Beta program will be http://www.pixieplanets.com. If you are interested in participating in this exciting opportunity, stop by pixieplanets.com and register.
Your registration in PixiePlanets will not be tied to PixieToys' or any of the planets themselves. It will only be used during the testing and development phases.
What's on the PixiePlanets.com site?
- A bulletin board for each of the planets.
- A calendar, so we can be aware of important dates and milestones.
- A "recommend us" feature, so members can invite other close friends to participate.
- A "news" feature where our members can submit articles of interest related to their project.
- A "weblinks" feature where we can share useful links.
Once you have registered, you can start using these features right away.
=== PICK YOUR PLANET
Please go over the list of planets we are planning to launch. Once you've found one that tickles your fancy, stop by that planet's bulletin board and let us know you're ready to participate! If you are knowledgeable in several of the niche areas, we ask that you select the one you hold dearest This will not prevent you from participating in the other planets as they are launched.

I'm happy to report that the call for Beta Testers has been very successful. We ask that all testers click on the Forums link on the top of PixiePlanets page and post to the Planet of their choice.
We want to get started and need to know who belongs on which Planet in our Pixie Universe.

Hi, Gail - your site looks good! And we like the concept, but we weren't sure where someone like us would fit in, if you even want sellers like us at all... we sell 20th century "vintage" and late 19th century antiques. Inside of that grouping, we sell just about everything - china, kitchenware, textiles and linens, vintage fashion and patterns, books and advertising paper, furniture and lamps, toys, holiday, hardware and tools, etc. etc. etc..
We're interested if you're interested, I think!
I got sort of lost by the message boards, and couldn't find an email link, and we just have a couple of questions, before we'd sign up, hope that's ok...
What about the bulk lister? This is pretty critical, we have a lot of items moving in and out every day, and ease in listing helps so much! Especially in the early stages with low sell through, we want to be able to list fast!
And where would we fit best? We'd welcome your input on this... you can email us at [email protected] and we could give you links to our current auctions and website, so you could get a feel for our type of merchandise.

While yer throwing all this Pixie-Dust around, why don't ya ask Leo how the hell I remove MAX from my PC, now that his buddies have pulled a PETS.com
To my knowledge, no upgrades to the MaxLoader were released since my departure from Carnaby in late July of 2002. Please understand that I have severed all ties with the company, and am glad to provide this information for your sake, and the sake of any of the great friends I've made while there.
The MaxLoader distributed during my tenure is a harmless application. To remove it, delete both the program and data folders (by default I believe they were c:\program files\maxloader and c:\maxfiles), then delete the icons on your desktop and start menu manually.
This will still leave an entry in your windows registry. I don't recommend that you change it, unless you are quite familiar with modifying the registry. It will cause no harm by remaining there.

Hello again Tom,
I would not recommend deleting any of the files saved to your system directory. They are part of one of the subsystems below, and may in fact be used by other applications besides Max.
- MS Visual Basic Runtime
- Imaging Routines
- MS Data Access
- MaxLoader's Custom "Tabs"
All the files installed to your system directory are either provided by Microsoft, or are standard routines used to support Max's database, its imaging system or the custom tabs.
Again, hope this helps a little. If you need to make space on your hard drive, most of the overhead is within the program and maxfile directories, which can be deleted without harm to your system.

It was with great sadness that I followed the slow demise of Carnaby over the past 14 months.
Technically (that's YOU!), the site was a huge success! Hopefully you can translate your EXTREMELY VAST technical expertise into a commercial success at P-T's!
In all honesty, I've given up on ALL secondary auction sites. Although I'm convinced that eBay will implode sometime over the next 18 mos, at the present, they remain the only game in town for me scarce bucks!

Thanks for the wishes of success. We're definitely giving it our best.
We are using technologies that are a departure from what "I'd grown used to", but I believe it will result in products of just as high a quality.
As far as your observation regarding eBay, I don't see where it will "implode" any time soon. All of the signs point at it either meeting or exceeding its goals. Why do you think it will happen within the next 18 months? Toys, Arts & Crafts and Hobbies

I think people have ben predicting the demise of ebay for at least four years now. The opposite of a demise has occured.
If enough sellers adapt to a store format to sell their goods the Froogle type of gambits may give ebay a run for their money. The auction format is rapidly dying as most auctions get either 'none or one' bid with the proliferation of auction goods these days. The 'Buy It Now' or 'Take It Now' auctions are becoming the norm now rather than the exception.
