They're back!
I think they were born 5 months before ebay but never quite cut the mustard.
AuctionBytes story ....
eBay's Earliest Competitor Resurfaces: PC Mall Launches OnSale
By Ina Steiner
AuctionBytes.com
October 29, 2003
PC Mall Inc. officially launched OnSale.com Tuesday. The original OnSale auction
site launched in 1995, making it one of the first online auction businesses, and
a staunch competitor of eBay's. Egghead acquired OnSale in 1999 and later closed
the auction site when the company was on the brink of bankruptcy in 2001.
PC Mall Inc., which launched and later sold auction site uBid.com, acquired the
OnSale.com URL and software through Egghead's bankruptcy proceeding.
Interestingly, in 2001, Egghead had briefly handed over maintenance of the
auction operations to Fairmarket, whose assets eBay acquired several months ago.
Frank Khulusi, Chairman and CEO of PC Mall, said, "OnSale Inc.'s current
strategy is to promote OnSale.com's well known name through low cost means.
Initially, OnSale will be focused on continuing to add technology capabilities
while it offers attractive promotions such as free listings."
OnSale is a marketplace service and, unlike PC Mall's previous auction site
uBid, will not sell its own products on the site. OnSale launched a "stores"
feature several days ago.
Sam Khulusi, President of OnSale Inc., said listings on the OnSale site are free
and did not say when listing fees would be instituted. He said they plan to
"leverage the assets that exist in the company" to market the site to buyers and
sellers. PC Mall sites have links to the OnSale site, he said.

He scooped that from the ebay Outlook where someone else posted it first.

Ace scoops everything from lurking other boards 24/7 and never finds any of this on his own but wants credit for it all.

Message boards are for opinions. I didn't lie, I stated an opinion and obviously most of it was factual. Apology? lol
Now back to the topic. I think it will take a long time before onsale becomes serious competition for ebay. JMHO of course.

This sounds much more like a statement of facts than any opinion. You're a sad one.

Just checked the prices and they are TOO HIGH. Whew! i don't think that site will make it if they're sellers have products that way over retail price.

Yep, all 3rd tier sites have the same problem, as did the former free yahoo auctions. Insertion fees are a must for a successful auction site.

Hi Blairwitch, for the sake of discussion could you clarify your remark "Yep, all 3rd tier sites have the same problem, as did the former free yahoo auctions. Insertion fees are a must for a successful auction site."
I have seen several posts where not only you but numerous others have said that the third tier sites as you call them are nuts if they think they can charge insertion fees with no traffic. No one will pay them when the chance of a sale is so small.
I agree with that evaluation but now it looks like you have had a change of mind on the issue and now say the small sites must charge insertion fees if they are to be successful. I'm trying to understand your new way of thinking, could you please clarify your new position on small sites and fees. Thanks

Ace, where you been of late? Haven't seen you post on here?
Kiara and stone why are you always dogging him down with every post he makes? If he is doing anything wrong or unacceptable in his posts; you guys are just as bad for always pouncing on whatever he says.

My comment up there was back in October if you check the date. Ace and I have a history of crossing paths when he hid under other IDs and wasn't all that honest and was playing lots of games here.
Show me exactly where I am dogging him. I previously asked him about his yearbook sales that he was touting and yes, I did question him when he couldn't support his claims.

Half of the posts here were deleted when Scout got his well-deserved boot. ( Justice previals! )
I never did get any apology from a certain someone which tells a lot about the person.

I have Stoney on permanent ignore and also had Spout on ignore but made the mistake of reading a few of his posts the other day when I wasn't logged in and the ignore feature was not active. As Bugs Bunny would say " Whatta maroon ". There is now 'peace in the valley', also known as 'Other Online Auctions'.

Tell the truth, one thread that I was on was deleted I believe.
I hadn't addressed Ace in weeks nor had I posted here but on that thread a couple of days ago he dragged my name into it and made the false assumption that I had tattled to Vendio about something and I've never ever reported anyone, nor was I on any of the threads in question so I posted on that one to correct him.
On that same thread he was also begging for me and others to support him when he got in a hassle with someone and I told him to do his own tattling to the teacher. He either pretends to put others on ignore or he tattles because he doesn't have the guts to stand up for himself.
Leave me out of your little battles, Ace.
